An old slide I made for a lecture about writing. You have my full permission to use it if you would want to.

At 2:30am I woke up thinking I must write a cartoon called "Art Garfunkel's Fart Carbuncle" and submit it to Viz and of course I'm never going to. But yeah, Art has built this carbuncle and filled it with farts, and is trying to lure Paul Simon as punishment for erasing him from the 83 reunion LP.

Since SNL is back I want to mention that short term cast member Luke Mones had an idea for a sketch they never did where a guy on death row is asked what he wants for his last meal and he says Olive Garden’s Never Ending Soup and Breadsticks and they can never execute him because he keeps eating

When comics were comics!

And when writers and editors never trusted an artist to get the job done with a picture alone.

We need to start preparing now for the 2040s when law enforcement becomes overwhelmingly Furries inspired by watching Paw Patrol as kids

Supervillains were invented so that superheroes would stop trying to make the world a better place and would rather spend their time defending a meaningless status quo instead.

The Belgians/French were the only ones who figured out that the ideal length of a comic story should be 45-60 pages and if there's an overarching narrative it should still be episodic.

It feels insane to pay 6 dollars for something I can read in 15-20 minutes

Old school benday dot coloring looks better than modern over-rendered coloring, and every single "remaster" recoloring of an older comic bears this out.

Each day you will be confronted with three unmarked doors. Behind door one is getting all your work done. Behind door two is getting enough rest and exercise. Behind door three is a tiger. Good luck.

Canceling Disney+ because they canceled Kimmel is well and good, but if you really want to make them pay attention, there is no better way than fucking Goofy's wife

After I saw Triplets of Belleville I immediately called my parents and told them you have to see this, it’s amazing, go see it this weekend. So they did and they hated it so much they called me back just to yell at me

There used to be like eight things to watch a year, your friends would look you dead in the eye and say have you seen triplets of belleville yet

The Xeric was an amazing gift that birthed the current indie comics world.

The closest thing we have is the incredible generosity of Annie Koyama, which is invaluable, but it would be great if we had both.

Wild opinion: we need to bring back something like the Xeric Grant.

Jordan Crane got $10k and made the incredibly beautiful and structurally complex anthology NON. #spx

I had the same reaction it felt like the beginning of a horror movie the entire time, which isn’t all bad, and yeah, Cage was amazing, and yet.

It's cool how each day there's a news item or two that makes me feel like the world is standing at the precipice of a steep cliff and someone just gave it a hard shove
