We have to wonder what drives so many voters into an apoplectic fit about their hardships when a Democrat tries to tell them things are getting better, but when a Republican says fuck your hardships, I'm gonna give you even more hardships because you're such trash, they shrug and go watch football.
Biden wasn’t even allowed to say the economy was doing well, even though it objectively was, because that was insensitive to anyone anywhere who was struggling.

But Republicans can go “oh, you can’t afford health care now, waaaaa cry more” and apparently that’s fine.

Don't get me wrong I lost a lot of respect for a lot of people in 2024 but the people who I lost the most respect for is The People, and I gotta say, seeing the special election results makes me madder at them

"I think we should beat the fascists"

"So we'll be voting for Dems?"

"I guess, though if I know those stupid feckless worthless Dems they'll just hand control back in 4 years to more fascists"

"Hm. Guess I won't vote then."

"Exactly. My job here is done. Those fascists sure will be sorry now!"

I love how the political press saw a bunch of libs get into “Defend Our Press” mode in 2015 & 2016 and decided to spend the next decade sucking up to Mr. Trump the Funny Teevee Star.

...and eventually that all gets to be just a little too much to bear, and you're tired, and hey maybe your own desire to throw your hands up makes you bad too, so you start coming down on the side of a giant meteor strike or plague. The only justice that fits your strict criteria is extinction now.

I think a lot of it, maybe not all but a lot, comes down to notions of "justice". If you want to believe in pure moral righteousness, you don't have a lot of good options. Prisons are corrupt, murder is bad, everyone is fallible. No system of justice will ever be perfect, sometimes bad guys win...
so much of online political discourse seems to be this sot of yearning eschatology—searching for some ending that will cap off the narrative of reality. because any sort of ending offers some sort of catharsis, or perhaps absolution, even if the ending's a doomed one.

American politics is a constant struggle for apathetic masses between one faction who wants the death of all things and one who wants to do simple good governance but is extremely shy about the “death of all things” guys hitting them

Yup. The elite media is pro-eugenics, anti-lockdowns, and very anti-trans. Everything makes sense when you understand that.
People are getting mad here, but most journalists actually like RFK because they agree with his positions on eugenics and covid lockdowns, and will never forgive Biden for ending the Afghan war. Not explicitly a sex thing most of the time.
I assume journalists do this stuff all the time. Maybe more on the editorial side, but as a non-journalist, I don’t particularly care what part of the organization is tasked to do the consent-manufacturing. This assumption is based on my observations of journalism in the run up to the Iraq War.

The situation is quite obviously representative of our media though who largely defended Nuzzi when it came out she committed one of the biggest ethical transgressions one could commit and was hired by Vanity Fair afterwards. It deserves discussion and reckoning because the implications are broad.

This denial right here is a huge part of the problem and indicative of the larger rot. This is a story with obviously larger implications and overt evidence that this behavior is accepted and encouraged industry wide.
you know, what if they aren't actually a commentary on journalism or the state of media. what if these people are just extremely weird

It is a commentary on journalism at least as long as Nuzzi is employed by one of the most prestigious magazines in the country.

tougher media coverage would have made it harder for them to do that, it would have increased the mental cost of "I am going to cast a ballot for this guy", but it wouldn't have eliminated the sense of "I deserve this lower-price borgar" or "magic money man can turn time back to 2019"
