My photo shows a small bronze sculpture of a cat’s head with almond-shaped eyes inlaid with warm orange-coloured amber. The head is upright and alert with large pointed ears. Holes at the base of the ears indicate they once held earrings, now missing. There is a gold scarab on the forehead. The bronze is smooth and dark grey with some greenish discolouration particularly around the base of the neck. Fine incised parallel horizontal lines inside the ears and across the muzzle are suggestive of fur and whiskers. The head sits on a stone base inside a museum display case.

A Blue Tit is perched on a branch, fluffed up into a perfect little ball with its head tucked deep into its feathers, fully committed to ignoring the outside world. I just learned #sundayfishsketch is a thing and I'm thrilled because goldfish and koi are my favorite animals.

I am working on a space scene from construction paper that I will eventually paint. My NASA logo & flag aren’t perfect. I thought about redoing, but no!

Why much of the county seems somewhat sluggish today in the wake of yesterday's apple howling. #FolkloreSunday
January 17th – Apple Howling/Wassailing Given the Hookland love of cider, there can be little surprise that the county’s culture, especially in those villages with significant cider orchards. Every January 17 – Twelfth Night in the old Julian calendar – gangs of local lads, roused by warm cider infused with honey and spices, are paid by local landowners to go a howling in their orchards. This usually involves beating the trees with sticks, pouring cider upon the roots and in some versions firing shotguns into the wild night above the heads of compatriots dressed as witches. The bangs and howling are allegedly made to scare off evil spirits and wake the Apple Tree man from his winter sleep, to call his sap to rise. This done, they tie cider-soaked toast and bits of cheese to the trunks to feed him and incant this verse: Apple Tree Man, Apple Tree Man, We come to wassail thee Here’s to this blessed old apple tree Stand your ground root, bear well top We pray that you send us a howling good crop Holler boy every twig Holler boys apples big’

The idea that you can look at the world and its flaws and its injustices and its cruelties and get deeply, intensely angry, and that you can turn that into energy for doing the right thing and making the world a better place. He taught me that the anger itself is not the part! should be fighting. Nobody in my life ever said that before.
