This is interesting work and I’m not just saying that because he buttered me up by saying nice things about the book…
I built a salary model where you can see every player's value through 2031. Tells you which contracts are good/bad (and by how much), and what fair market value is going forward.

Here's what my model says about upcoming free agent Coby White:

I’m not anti-gambling - that would be pretty churlish from someone who has made their living off of that industry over two separate periods - the really dirty word is “financialization” which is a fancy way of saying everything is now gambling but nothing actually matters.

“And there’s a long throw down the sideline by Castellanos…”
“Minnesota Vikings radio broadcaster taking leave of absence after mocking ICE protestors.”

“On Monday, Paul Allen apologized for what he called a ‘cheap one-liner’ in which he called protestors ‘paid’ and wondered aloud if they would get ‘hazard pay’ to be out in inclement weather.”

A Minnesota sports radio personality is apologizing and taking a leave of absence, he announced Monday, Jan. 26, after he called into question the intentions of ICE protestors in Minneapolis.

I regret nothing
Scene: Interior, cold house, near the window.
Me: “I think the trim is actually transferring more cold than the panes.”
@sethpartnow.bsky.social: “So would you say you’ve shifted the blame from the windows…”
Me: “Don’t. Absolutely not.”
Seth: “…to the walls?”
Me: “Shut up and make me an Americano.”

Liz knows ball.
at dinner a friend ordered crab rangoon and I immediately said “things of that nature” in the same cadence as the “peace be with you / and also with you” of my Catholic youth

Maybe some degree of bullying is good if it prevents people saying shit like this.

It's precisely because we respect the "academic enterprise" that we criticize someone who proudly states that they're just trying be edgy and provocative by lazily churning out a half-baked historical argument in service of authoritarianism.
I want to address my friend Ilan who says here that he has been subject to “a lot of hate” from academics who “should know better” and haven’t respected the “academic enterprise.”

I don’t dislike Ilan. I also think his paper is fundamentally wrong and not scholarly.

Seth Partnow EXONERATED, buy/read The Midrange Theory
There’s a whole damn chapter in my book about this, literally centered on Jimmy Butler.

Does buying your own line of bullshit make you a great salesman or just an uber mark, no pun intended?
Also, guess who got snookered on a deal that was against NBA rules on face

Which should have been no obstacle to the Future Greatest Saleman
To be fair, wasn’t he basically out of power in Dallas by then?

Schitt’s Creek was great.
I for one would watch the shit out of a reality TV show where we seize the assets of billionaires and set them off into the real world armed only with their plucky attitude, unwarranted self-esteem, and complete lack of experience dealing with our capitalist system from the other side.
this is the kind of answer you give when you have not had a normal job in four decades

Such a good salesman he couldn’t convince the Mavs to not trade Luka. Which should have been substantially easier than getting to “yes” on selling a vacuum door-to-door in the suburbs.

From experience, everyone will believe you except for fans of teams with opponents shooting 31% from three who are universally convinced they’re the team that has finally and truly figured it out.
The Clippers threw everyone off the scent by immediately losing their next five games, but now since this post their opponents have shot 33% on 3s, second-lowest in the NBA. Someday people are going to believe me that defenses don't really have much control over opponent shot making.
The thing about the Clippers is they're the most obvious regression candidate in the league right now (especially before last night). Opponents have gone from 35% on 3s last year to 39% this season and basically every Clippers newcomer (including Chris Paul) is way below projected.

I worked with someone at the Bucks who was AMAZING at this - his hit rate on non-first round prospects was pretty astounding and while being the freak that was willing to grind to find them was a huge part of it, there was tremendous skill in deciphering whose talents would translate to NBA level.
There's not really any skill to this beyond basic ball knowledge. It's mostly about being the freak who decides to watch all the crappy ball to find the one gem when everyone else says it's not worth their time.

A pretty incredible list to find oneself on.
Shoutout to a few people I really enjoy on this app ( @kentremendous.bsky.social @sethpartnow.bsky.social and @chrislhayes.bsky.social ) for the huge honor of making the Books I Finished in 2025 list.
