it's kinda weird that all the software i am expected to use for work are all written by distributed teams, go, python, postgres, linux, chrome, k8s etc

and despite being told "the best teams work in an office together" i don't know of any software i use that's actually written that way

I love when you order food in a foreign restaurant and the head waiter gets sent over to warn you about the meal, and check if you want it

The word “login” comes from throwing a log attached to a rope with knots overboard a ship to see how many knots go by over time (see also, knots as speed). You’d then put that info in the “log book.” You’d “log in” on a regular basis. This wasn’t from 1959, it was likely from 1689! Etymology baby!

On this date in 1794 was born famed orator Edward Everett, who spoke at Gettysburg for two hours before Abraham Lincoln took two minutes for his own remarks. Everett was entirely gracious:
"The fuck, Abe? Did you write that shit on the back of an envelope at breakfast? Fuck me. I'm dead."

Today, on Libero, Tariq Panja, Miguel Delaney, James Horncastle and I talk Champions League and how it can be improved, and ask whether clubs have DNA, while proving our DNA is to be embarrassed by events happening between recording and publication.

As a cyclist my problem with the online cycling community is that it is mostly white privileged men who desperately want to be the victims for once. It’s why they can’t ever accept any responsibility or admit any flaws

Thought experiment: If a narcissist orangutang punches all your friends giving them 20-40% bruises all over their bodies, but the same orangutang only punches you so bad you get 10% bruises because you kissed his hairy, orange ape arse - is that something to feel good about?

Lady Day, ie nine months before Christmas Day. Until the mid-C18th this was officially New Year’s Day in England (which must have been inconvenient). Combined with the loss of eleven days in September 1752 with the move to the Gregorian calendar, this explains why the tax year starts on 6th April.
