1) I forgot I already had an island,

For a comparison, it’s like saying that in the current day there is only a push-back against the rampant damage AI datacenters cause and absolutely zero astroturfing about how “no, deepfake everything is good actually”
To re-iterate, it WAS a huge problem that was avoided by tons of hard work, but to pretend there wasn’t a not-insignificant amount of discussion about how Y2K was basically the rapture-adjacent end of days is bizarre to me.

I feel like “Y2K wasn’t the literal apocalyptic end of days” is being conflated with “Y2K wasn’t a big deal at all” - it was a huge deal, but the Earth wasn’t going to stop rotating if almost the entire tech field failed like some doomsday prophecies painted it to be.
