When people claim that congestion pricing's and public transit's goal is to make car travel as inconvenient as possible, I know they don't actually understand how the world works.
Despite what Jean Godden and her "oracle" are predicting, I'm going to go out on a limb and assert that Katie Wilson will not make "auto travel as inconvenient as possible" in Seattle.

I finally got out on the Snoqualmie Valley Trail, despite ending up doing it on one of the hottest days of the year for us. I'm looking forward to getting out there again next year, and checking out some more far-flung trails too. bsky.app/profile/skyt...
I need some positivity. Quote or reply with your favorite bike memory of 2025. It can be a great ride, an advocacy accomplishment, whatever. Let's celebrate bikes.

My personal favorite was finally doing a bikepacking ride up to Portland, Maine! It has me excited for bigger adventures in 2026.

It's amazing how easy it is to blow a car brain's mind when you point out that bicycles, trains, and walking all existed as forms of transportation before the automobile.
I find "America isn't really set up for it" to be an annoying rebuttal to any sort of proposal to reduce car dependency. Our leaders used policy to create a system of car dependency and we can sure as hell use policy to undo that. There are absolutely barriers, but do nothing is not a solution.

The hilarious thing is that I find SEA to be by far the best airport I have ever flown through in the country. Not only does it have 10-minute 1 Line service, but it also is served by the 10-minute RapidRide A Line service, numerous other local buses. www.seattletimes.com/opinion/edit... #SEATAC
Sea-Tac must modernize to meet the needs of a growing region | Editorial
A congested airport serving the Puget Sound region benefits no one. Port leaders are right to upgrade facilities and prepare for more people.

I love seeing trips like this by transit! Transit isn't just for commuting/saving parking costs.
Transit works best when it's useful to as many people as possible, performing as many different kinds of types of trips as possible.

In perhaps the quintessential Seattle example of an unpredictable utility trip:

Here's me, delivering a new procurement of kitchenwares from Costco on a bendy boy!
December 30, 2025 at 2:52 AM
I wonder if Nordstrom's will use the same delivery strategy as Ross, blocking the sidewalk and bus lane illegally with an aggressive off-duty cop berating potential customers who complain? Businesses have a role in making downtown welcoming too. www.seattletimes.com/business/ret...

If there were more "aggressive" delivery cyclists like Joe, I would be much more likely to use delivery services. As it is, to use any delivery service is to accept that the drivers need to engage in dangerous and illegal behavior for my convenience.
My Uber Eats order was delivered by a very aggressive bicyclist I’ve seen around the city the past two years.

His name is Joe.

instead of cutting taxes and stopping costs on the car traffic that makes Portland worse, like a Republican, how about you tax the wealthy and use the revenue for programs to help the lower class? You know, like a progressive might.

Why not just take that money and subsidize the existing fast foot ferries so they take the same fare as all other transit service? Oh, right, that only benefits people and not cars.
Ferguson proposing $3 billion in bonds for highways and vehicle ferries and then proposing to divert hundreds of millions in Climate Commitment Act dollars a few days later is such an incredible one-two punch.

There's plenty of uses for cargo bikes, which fit far better into an urban environment than any personal gas-powered vehicle. For instance:

Not to mention all the personal uses of them for groceries, home supplies, kid-transporting, etc.

I think when this many people turn out for a new safe crossing, it says something about the overall lack of safe crossings. Great to see so many people who care, though!
Counted 50 people celebrating a new traffic light, so at least I'm not alone.

This could be describing the intersection I bike through every day for work. Despite having NTOR signs, 25mph speed limit, and being adjacent to a premier rail trail, a six-lane stroad is still a stroad and encourages reckless driving. Every few months I'll have a close call with a red-light runner
"cyclists have learned to wait at least five seconds after they receive a green light because, without fail, the driver of a 3,000-plus-pound machine will be blowing through the red light "

Deep dive into the surge in US pedestrian deaths:

"It’s not that more pedestrians are getting hit by vehicles; it’s that the ones that are getting hit are more likely to die."

"[That] seems like fairly strong evidence for the theory that the rise in large SUVs is behind the uptick in ped deaths."
Why Are So Many Pedestrians Killed by Cars in the US?
It’s unfortunately not uncommon for pedestrians to be killed by cars in the US.

Apparently the fact that I need this to breathe doesn't enter into this calculation, nor the fact that the "cheapest" inhaler I can use is already almost $300/mo w/o insurance (thankfully I do). Maybe we should ask drivers to drive only when needed? #weekwithoutdriving

This happened on my bike commute route. I've never had something so egregious happen, but 40th along this stretch is a classic stroad - a residential street with some commercial use, but setup as an arterial which encourages the car-brains to drive aggressively spdblotter.seattle.gov/2025/10/04/m...

That barrier clearly darted into traffic and needs some more hi-viz clothing. Driver can't be responsible for this at all.
A nice thing about this kind of incident getting onto the Seattle subreddit, and then having very active comment sections, is that a lot of folks process exactly why this kind of protection is needed.
