BBC journalists have been banned from describing the kidnapped Venezuelan leader as having been kidnapped.

The BBC News Editor has sent this to BBC journalists.

Trump's threatening to start a war with six different countries and NATO itself on the grounds of "I wanna" and Dems are still acting like the dog in the "This Is Fine" meme, insisting impeachment is pointless bcs it wont work (none of us know that for sure) and it's better to just ask him to stop.

me randomly reading some star trek lore:

“World War III was the last of Earth's three world wars, lasting from approximately 2026 to 2053. The conflict involved nuclear cataclysm as well as genocide and eco-terrorism. The post-atomic horror in the aftermath persisted as late as 2079.”

THREAD: Viral misinformation on US capture of Nicolas Maduro - 4 January

This video, shared by Alex Jones and others, falsely claims to show millions of Venezuelans in Caracas celebrating Maduro's capture.

In fact, it shows anti-Maduro protests in July 2024 over a highly disputed election.

Weak. Weak. Weak.

You don't have to start by tripping over yourself saying Maduro sucks to condemn Trump's brazenly illegal acts.
Nicolás Maduro repeatedly denied the will of the Venezuelan people, including when two thirds of them voted for an end to decades of political & economic ruin and criminality.

"I know it's AI, but..."

No. Let me stop you there. Don't share AI slop, even if it's just to dunk on it.

You're still giving the people that use AI to churn out slop the oxygen of exposure.

Just don't. Don't do that.

babe wake up, they're doing insider trading on war crimes
“What appears to be a newly created account appeared to invest $30,000 Friday in Maduro's exit. After Maduro went into custody Saturday morning, that same investor netted $436,759.61.”
Someone made $400K by predicting Maduro's capture. Here's what happened
The winnings come as the rules governing prediction markets are still evolving.

THREAD: I'll fact-check all the viral misinformation about the US military operation in Venezuela in this thread

This image, purporting to show the US military arresting Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, is AI-generated.

According to Google's SynthID detector, it was created using Google AI.

Spineless Quisling Blancmange
Starmer asked to respond to Trump breaking international law and seizing the leader of another sovereign nation replies that it is his "responsibility" to have a good relationship with the US President.

"I have stepped up that responsibility [and] I do get on with President Trump," he tells the BBC

A side story is there’s a ton of insider trading on these prediction markets. New accounts making hundreds of thousands on their first and only trade, that maduro would be ousted. Seems like insider trading is legal if not encouraged on these platforms

The spineless quisling will abstain.
There’s going to be a motion of censure at the UN and Starmer is going to have a decision to make.

A lot of people forget how in 2004 the Bush regime kidnapped the democratically elected President of Haiti, Jean-Bertrand Aristide, and dumped him in Africa.
Is there any modern precedent for abducting a head of state?

Plenty of examples of coups, assassinations and domestic trials, including show trials, but this is like a Crusader Kings plot.

We owe each other everything.
I hate the “we don’t owe each other anything” mentality floating around. I think we very much do owe others respect. Not the fake civility that’s strangled us, but consideration. That’s what I meant to say and wound up not doing well.

Take good care. This is all horrible.

People are going to try and lure you into debates about whether Maduro was a good guy or not and the thing is, it doesn’t matter for the purposes of discussing whether violent kidnappings and extrajudicial murders by the US government are ok. No, they aren’t! End of convo.
