Freedom of movement is a human right.

And all of them have the right to defend themselves from anybody who would destroy their homes and harm and kill them simply for being Jewish. That is all.

The Jewish community that existed in Israel always had a right to be there. The refugees who fled to Israel and settled there always had a right to be there. The Zionists who immigrated to Israel had a right to be there. People who made aliyah after the creation of the state have a right to be there

I never want to relativize war and mass killing and it would feel irresponsible to do so in the midst of it, but the keys to peace were always in Hamas' hands and remain so, and Israel always had a right to defend itself from people who would commit pogroms. That is literally the point of Israel

With the ceasefire in effect, it feels appropriate timing (again) to push back on genocide libel.

I guess anti-war pantomiming comes naturally with the territory of watching your favorite guys getting destroyed in a war.

And by the nature of their ideas, they did not want a ceasefire; though they were obviously successful enough at lying about that and attaching themselves to the peace movement.

The anti-Semites were the ones arguing that Jews are really just Europeans who have no historical ties to the Levant and therefore they should simply go away and turn things over to Hamas.

Nobody was called an anti-Semite for calling for a ceasefire. Everyone but Likud and Hamas wanted a ceasefire.

I can’t help but think today about how many young people were savaged on social media, branded as anti-semites and abandoned by their schools for daring to call for a ceasefire. I remember saying that it was the first time I can remember that calling for ceasefire was regarded as a hostile demand.

It’s amazing how all the reporting is just memory-holing this part

Rep. Scalise calls the “No Kings” protests a “hate America” rally.

"No kings" does strike me as a pretty comprehensive political ethic, and one that has been badly in need of renewal. Rejecting dictatorship is as American as it gets. It's a simple idea that anybody can apply in their own context
sodone.bsky.social
I'm NGL watching the armchair radicals seethe about the predominating normie element in the protests might be the best part, lol. We're sick of radical politics, they got us into this mess. Fuck off with the misanthropy and nihilism, that's what it always boils down to with the horseshoes

Hot take apparently that "no kings" has a motivating meaning in this country that is rooted in its own history and specific understanding of monarchy, not those of another time and place.

it really is the intense emotionality that gives it away. He seriously seemed at the brink of shedding actual tears of rage. It was both ridiculous and gross

Outrage that Israel would go to full-scale war with an entity that would commit more 10/7s until it no longer exists is outrage that Israelis live at all. Full stop.
sodone.bsky.social
I've said this so many times. I support the 2SS. I agree that the Kahanists and revisionists in the Israeli government are partly to blame for holding up peace. But nothing that came before or after justifies what Hamas did on 10/7.

that's all I ever remember when I think of him. Bouncing in his seat with rage at the scandal that Israel would defend itself from an attempted genocide by Islamist terrorists. I don't care what anybody tells me, that is not normal
sodone.bsky.social
I always watched him and kinda liked him but I had to stop when I saw him literally bouncing in his seat with rage at the -very beginning- of the Gaza war. All for Israel, none for Hamas

Their majority is very thin, we do not need a lot of them to break ranks
