Strange and brilliant games do continue to be created. And they don't need to be state-of-the-tech, massive budget projects to do so.

The tech for most 3D and 2D mechanics used in games approached maturity over 20+ years ago.

The eye exam is the perfect game design. That big E is a great tutorial that teaches you the basic mechanic. But it doesn't baby you and quickly gets hard as they introduce the small and blurry enemies.

this manifesto is specifically about analogue roleplaying games, but this really hits a lot of points that concern videogames as well

i remember that people told me to send gutwhale codes to him bc he was one of the largest youtuber doing stuff on obscure and small games. maybe he got so big because he was in prime position to stream that wave of highly successful tiny indies of the post SNKRX time? maybe not idk i just woke up

I'm so ready for genAI to be gone. I want these people to be shamed for the rest of their lives. Not only the VCs who shove it down our throats, but the scientists who let it happen because they don't want to stick their necks out. If you can't handle tough decisions, go paint houses or something.

i think i see what you mean, but the important distinction for me is the difference between choosing to draw a realistic tree bc u want to VS only being allowed to even think about drawing a flower after proving that you can draw a tree exactly how the game wants you to draw a tree
