Great piece from @skennedy2504.myatproto.social on the disturbing likelihood that we are dealing with a Supreme Court staffed by justices whose only contact with the larger world is through the filter of right wing partisan media.
The problem with the Supreme Court supermajority is not just one of ideology or politics, but of epistemology. The world as they understand it bears little resemblance to reality www.liberalcurrents.com/the-supreme-...
The Supreme Court Lives in Fox News' America
A Court that does not share a common factual world with the people it governs is untethered from democratic reality.

A proposed “truth commission” to investigate possible crimes committed by Jeffrey Epstein at his Santa Fe County ranch could, state lawmakers hope, make New Mexico a leader in seeking accountability in a scandal that has become one of the biggest issues in national politics.

This. It's a matter of character.
I've written about the overarching post story, causes, underlying pattern. But the failure of Lewis or Bezos to even show up, literally or figuratively, on a day of devastating cuts epitomizes the profound lack of character and accountability that is so common place today within the American elite.

Of 3800 children & infants taken into immigration custody Jan-Oct 2025, 2600 were detained by ICE officers.

Those kids weren't arrested at the border. They weren't new arrivals seeking help. They were kids going about their daily lives here—often with legal status.

The GOP *owns* this horror.

This is a perfect example of "I saw a thing that I could do and I started doing it"
ICE has grabbed so many people from their vehicles that there are abandoned cars across Minnesota.

This tow truck driver returns the cars for free as a public service, and he’s been getting death threats.

They hate the helpers.

Which is why must keep helping.

Juan Leon sends a "chase" car to check out where abandoned vehicles are located and arranges discreet drop-offs. Since late December, he estimated they have dropped off 250 cars.

This is Maria, a 6-year-old detained by ICE last year.

She began to unravel soon after arriving at a detention center in Texas, wetting the bed after years without accidents, crying through the night and begging to breastfeed again.

Most of all, she wanted to be reunited with her cat, Milo. 1/

I am. But there are three things at play here regarding ICE collecting private data. Quick rundown on the issue, why you should be paying attention, and what I'm doing about it:
So which politician is calling for the dismantling of the probably illegal database that ice & this government is collecting biometric data of protesters?

Truly an appalling and cynical take from a hack opinion writer.
What in the fck from McArdle?!? How are teen girls "just around" on a private island only accessible by the private jet of the rich guy who owns it? That there weren't price tags and a cash register doesn't make it not trafficking!
This level of apologia (from Megan McArdle in a podcast with Josh Barro and Ross Douthat) is fucking appalling. Idk what else there is to say.

Oh I love this very good boy!
Very few creatures should still say “WASSUUUUUUP!” But I think this dog, when he finds bedbugs, says, “WASSUUUUUUP!” and I support him.
This is Zephyr. He is a professionally trained bed bug detector. When he recognizes the scent of live bed bugs, he gives an alert by sitting and smiling exuberantly at his handler. We're pretty sure no one has ever been more excited to find bed bugs in their life. 13/10 (TT: emmercrew)

This attitude could apply to so many situations, but especially to Kristi Noem. Right on.
Yes, do that.

The fash's entire playbook is "never play defense, never apologize," and they see any backing off as the ultimate betrayal even if it's strategically sound.

Don't do this high roads, both sides, pretend-its-1992 bullshit. Ramp up the pressure and make them do something stupid.
Dems should press hard for impeaching Kristi Noem right now, says @jenrubin.bsky.social.

"Make Republicans defend her. Make them go on record.
Make them take the hard vote and defend the indefensible."

The New York Times makes me very angry. It shapes the news by its framing. It's helpful to know who causes the paper of record to fail so miserably so often.
Simply, it was an execution and is now a coverup. #InvestigateAlexPretti’sMurder #ArrestICE #AbolishICE
It’s been incredibly sad to see the news industry struggle so publicly with whether and how to tell the truth about the wanton, brutal killing of Alex Pretti--someone who did absolutely nothing wrong--at the hands of the masked federal agents terrorizing his city. presswatchers.org/2026/01/mome...

ICE murdered Renée Good in broad daylight. Less than 3 weeks later, they killed Alex Pretti, shooting him 10 times. Every day, we watch as people are ripped from their cars, their homes, their lives.

We can't allow ourselves to look away from this cruelty. Abolish ICE.
