A billion dollars is the socio-political equivalent of a loose nuke, and we should work as ruthlessly and diligently to prevent the acquisition of the former as we do the latter.

“The problem with billionaires isn’t that they’re hoarding money that would otherwise pay for a Scandinavian social utopia. It’s that their money has become a source of wildly distorted political power that allows a few men with extremist views to wreak havoc on the rest of us.”

With SCOTUS set to legalize conversion therapy, I think it's important for states to get around this decision by implementing new legislation applying private rights of action to practitioners of conversion therapy by their victims with large damages and long statutes of limitations.

We had to unexpectedly put down our baby bear Ellie today. Even though we had more than 10 years together it's never enough time. Please give all your pets some extra love for me tonight.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

my brain is so fucking stupid. I was just in the middle of having a big cry about important personal life stuff, and right in the middle of that I started imagining the guitar riff from 96 Quite Bitter Beings mashed up with the vocals from "What I Got" by Sublime

To no one's surprise, ICE lied.

ICE rammed Martinez's vehicle, before shooting her MULTIPLE times with live rounds. A bullet fell out of her arm while she was being given first aid at an oil change shop.

Martinez is a US citizen w/a CC license.

Body-camera video of a Border Patrol agent involved in the shooting of a woman who was allegedly chasing agents in Brighton Park over the weekend shows an officer saying, “Do something, bitch,” before pulling over and shooting the woman five times, the woman’s attorney said in federal court Monday.

The video appears to contradict the government’s allegation that Marimar Martinez, 30, drove toward officers before one of them opened fire at her late Saturday morning on Kedzie Avenue near 39th Street, her attorney, Christopher Parente, said at a detention hearing at the Dirksen Federal Courthouse. Parente said the video shows an agent turn federal vehicle left into Martinez’s vehicle, after which an agent says, “Do something bitch.” The agent then exits the vehicle and shoots at Martinez.

Parente said Martinez has “seven holes” in her from the shooting and that agents were in such a hurry to take her into custody at the hospital that they had to return later when Martinez began bleeding from her wounds.

Parente disputed the government’s claim that Martinez is a danger to the community and should be detained, saying instead that the officer who shot her was a threat.

“I think there’s a danger to the community, but I don’t think it’s Ms. Martinez,” he said. A trucker at the shop called 911 as workers frantically grabbed blue shop towels and patches to place on her wounds, the manager said. The shop manager called 911 and said, “Send somebody quick because this lady is bleeding profusely. ... I mean, it was instant puddles.”

Police and paramedics showed up a few minutes later, he said. As paramedics placed tourniquets on Martinez’s leg and arm, a bullet fell out of her arm and onto the shop’s floor, the manager said. She left in an ambulance. FBI investigators then arrived, placing red tape around the area where Martinez had sat and around her car, the manager said.

ICE / DHS shot a woman in Chicago because she has been working to identify the secret police behind the masks. According to the @chicago.suntimes.com story it sounds like federal agents used live rounds as the victim needed to be brought to the hospital.

chicago.suntimes.com/news/2025/10...
The woman who was shot had been identified last week in a U.S. Customs and Border Protection bulletin for allegedly publicly identifying agents and encouraging people to attack them and disrupt enforcement actions, McLaughlin said.

this was called Cohost—not enough people used it or spent money on it relative to the amount of money it cost to (1) pay its 4 employees a living wage for their labor; and (2) keep the site running, so it died, nothing like it has taken its place at the scale it existed, and now we're here

This is all complete nonsense. How are they building the capacity? Who is paying for it? Data centers take two and a half years a gigawatt. No real money has changed hands! Bullshit galore
stocks.apple.com/AmyvoZUvRRV2...
The first tranche vests with the first full gigawatt deployment, with additional tranches unlocking as OpenAI scales to 6 gigawatts and meets key technical and commercial milestones required for large-scale rollout.
If OpenAI exercises the full warrant, it could acquire approximately 10% ownership in AMD, based on the current number of shares outstanding. OpenAI plans to use the AMD chips for inference functions, or the computations that allow AI applications such as chat bots to respond to user queries. As the profusion of large language models and other tools has picked up, demand for inference computing has skyrocketed, OpenAI Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman said in a joint interview with Su.
“It’s hard to overstate how difficult it’s become” to get enough computing power, Altman said. “We want it super fast, but it takes some time.”
The two CEOs said the deal will tie their companies together and give them incentives to commit to the AI infrastructure boom. “It’s a win for both of our companies, and I’m glad that OpenAI’s incentives are tied to AMD’s success and vice versa,” Su said.

I visited the apartment building ICE raided on Tuesday today. Story to come, but you can walk right in. Half of the apartments have no doors on them. Children's stuff abandoned in some flats. *Citizen* residents told me they were arrested and held for hours in zipties. This is America
