This is a devastating story. And I don't think the New York Times of all fucking places should be allowed to run a story like this without at least a paragraph acknowledging the role their newspaper had in mainstreaming the hatred that killed Lia.
A devastating story about the life and death of Lia Smith, a transgender woman and college student targeted by conservatives online because she briefly participated on the school's diving team. Lia was found dead by suicide last fall at the age of 21.

New — I wrote about how corporate media is immediately siding with power in the wake of Trump attacking Venezuela and capturing Maduro, and how journalists need to treat the administration as a hostile entity that’s openly lying to them.
Call Trump's power grab in Venezuela what it is
Corporate media must recognize they're being openly lied to—and report accordingly.

Broke my left arm in elementary school, twice! First time playing indoor soccer in gym class. Second time doing basketball drills indoors and I didn’t tie my shoes.
What's the most ridiculous way you ever hurt yourself? I got out of the tub, skidded in water and tripped over the toilet. Ankle sprain.

Sneezed while bending over a tub. I then had to get on a cross country flight 2 hours later for a job interview…

In addition to being evil, this is so genuinely incapable of understanding that other people exist and have wants and feelings and desires for things like self-determination.

MILLER: Greenland should be part of the US. By what right does Denmark assert control over Greenland? The US is the power of NATO

The destruction doesn't make for a photo-op like tearing down the East Wing of the White House or bulldozing the Rose Garden, but it's every bit as bad. Generations of American children learned to spell and count, learned the Preamble to the Constitution, from watching shows produced by the CPB.

On literally the five-year anniversary of its release, The Eagles of Heart Mountain is set to be banned from national parks shops by the Trump administration.

I'm very proud of this book, a tale of resistance in the face of racism and cruelty. If that's worthy of banishment I'll wear it with pride.
What will Grand Teton’s shops purge under anti-DEI order?
The Trump administration's deadline to “review and remove” passed with shops closed for the season.

Since I've gotten the question a few times—if Klobuchar were to run for governor and win in 2026, thereby having to resign her Senate seat, what would happen? She'd get to appoint her own successor, who'd stay in office until 2028.

(Klobuchar's term ends in 2030, but there'd be a special in 2028.)

A reminder that the US killed 80 people in Venezuela, and it would be nice if the US media cared enough to think that the life of a grandmother in Caracas whose building is destroyed by a US bomb matters as much as the life of a person in the US.
