That was... an experience. I possibly should have gone for the two loop option (10miles) as my first event after this round of rehab.

It’s absolutely NOT fair. This outrageous scandal must end

As a lifelong SF&F fan who started with Heinlein juveniles, Asimov, Clarke etc, this is a fascinating thread and has made me think about the recommendations I make.
Yup. This is also why I get annoyed when people start suggesting "golden age" science fiction titles to people who are new the genre and are asking for suggestions. You want to turn a modern 15-year-old off science fiction forever, recommend stories that were old when her grandparents were her age.
When people ask how to get into GA SF I always say that the right way is via some of those fat "Best Of" short fiction collections

Excellent piece on why you should never negotiate with bigots: "Appeasement does not moderate or halt them; it only shifts the Overton window, until those seeking compromise find they have surrendered nearly everything they once stood for"
This is a must-read: Appeasing Sex Matters was never about “clarity”. It was about power. What followed the Supreme Court ruling wasn’t calm or resolution, but escalating demands, wider exclusions, and institutions choosing fear over inclusion.

What would it take to appease campaigners Sex Matters?
In April 2025, Sex Matters – the UK’s most prominent gender-critical campaign group – declared a win, but the fight seems far from over

Epstein made $10k+ payments to Mandelson's partner around the time of the email leaks.

Mandelson says he thought the payments were bursaries from an educational foundation.

We're not allowed to say famous people are lying. But is Mandelson lying?

Trying to get figures on secondary school science budgets - if anyone can DM some example numbers (with student pop) that would be incredibly useful.

So I can confirm that doing #parkrun as my speedwork in the middle of a Saturday morning 10 mile run is an excellent workout. And exhausting.

CW grief

a year ago today, my grandfather died. Last week, I taught my mixed media class how to use traditional Chinese ink like how he taught me. Grief is weird, and time continues.

I wrote this game a year ago for the #36wordGameJam as a way to process my grief and I’d love to reshare it now 🫶🏼

It's true that I run for sanity, and long term health benefits (basically because my dad didn't do exercise and I got to see the results). But it is *also* true that I ran enough to use up 8.5 kitkat chunky bars and I'm seriously considering it.
