This is very sad news. Eugene was a Charlottesville icon. Civil rights organizer. (He led he fight to desegregate the schools.) Affordable-housing innovator. Exceedingly generous to all with his time and, to the poor, his money. Successful businessman. A kind, loving man. We'll miss him terribly.

Jewish law & Bible scholarship don't think the word in the 10 Commandments for "steal" is about, like, shoplifting.

Look at eg Genesis 40:15, Exodus 21:16 , Deuteronomy 24:7--

the commandment is not to steal people. Don't kidnap.

Interesting article; thanks for posting it. If someone asked me this question, I'd say it depends. 1st, I think generalizing is unhelpful. Some gay men are doing a LOT. Some are not. I see more queer cis women fighting for trans people's rights, overall. 1/2

Important new feature in Amsterdam, since I last visited (and lived here): Memorials where holocaust victims lived. They also make me think how appropriate it'd be if 'missing' signs were posted in the US, where people have been abducted by unidentified masked goons, along with their stories.
