Saw this in an article while researching MCAS.

"Their symptoms will rarely prove fatal, but their lives will be long and miserable, and they may end by nearly exhausting their families and friends."

Fuck you. I'm going to have a happy, beautiful, mutually-supportive, love-filled life out of spite.

Just saw someone refer to the entirely preventable measles outbreak in South Carolina as “Freedom Freckles” and I am deceased. 💀

(And seriously, please get vaccinated. This is absurd and absurdly dangerous.)

drivers be like “i refuse to read and obey the law on operating a motor vehicle and then get mad when i am punished for breaking the law. why can’t i have a human casually refuse enforcement rather than lawfully exercising my first amendment right to petition the government to change the law”
In both cases part of the disconnect is people getting ticketed for behavior that regular cops wouldn’t cite. I’ve gotten a camera ticket for stopping before the crosswalk but not before the white line. No cop would issue a ticket. Same for going 10 over if it matches prevailing speed.

1.) School District
2.) Clinic of some form if you're lucky.
3.) USPS
4.) Whatever business (typically ag) that has professional positions.

That's basically the sum total of employers
The Medicare cuts will devastate rural hospitals and clinics, which are often the biggest, most stable employers in a rural town

Concur. I did enough HS accreditation visits in rural northern New England that I can do the community profile in my sleep. The five biggest employers

The school district
The hospital
The largest supermarket
One mill/plant/factory
One wild card (tourism, a 2nd factory, distro center, rail yard.)

discovering icks as a teacher that are really unhelpful working with littles:

1. teeth. specifically kids wiggling their teeth at me and trying to look excited with them while gagging. 🤢

2. lice. any wiggling parasite. 🤢

3. recently developed since covid, germs. mucus, not washing, etc. 🤢

Nobody’s presence can be illegal on stolen land. The whole basis of enforcing whether someone should be here or not is bullshit from the start.

my 2025 in one vignette: a teacher asks me as the MLL/ELD specialist if I have any children's books to help a student process a parent being abducted (detained) the same day one of my students had mom abducted (detained) and later released while the 8yo, 4yo, and baby were still in the car.

Every time you talk to someone about "what we did before" things like commercially available formula the answer is "babies died" (or suffered nutritional deficiencies, or or). I can tell you every household manual from the 19th c back has recipes for replacements for breast milk. Not a new issue.

They are not going after violent criminals. They are making legal immigrants illegal and throwing them into inhumane detention centers.
Minutes ago today the Trump regime abruptly cancelled citizenship ceremonies for several immigrants in Boston.

THEY CANCELLED CITIZENSHIP CEREMONIES.

These immigrants followed every rule & did everything right—Trump banned them anyway. All are from Black & brown majority nations.

This Is Fascism.

Omg you all let the police beat the shit out of young Americans for protesting genocide for a whole year straight and now you're publishing and reposting articles on how the youth is not interested in politics because they didn't want to participate in your whitewashed PG shitlib protest???
Fantastic data in here. Was just talking to a neighbor about the age curve at No Kings. Not an easy thing to fix.
The Times piece by @brendannyhan.bsky.social about No Kings made me curious about the political activism of young people over time. So I pulled some CES data and made some charts. www.pbump.net/o/how-severe...

got the shit scared out of me yesterday when someone knocked on my door 3 times, jingled the keys, UNLOCKED MY DOOR, and I yelled, "PARDON??"

it was the plumber, mixed up which apartment he was sent to with permission to enter. he was mortified and I was high on adrenaline.

I don't have a microwave and heat things up in the oven

BUT either I set it low and wait in undistracted agony for 20 min, or set it higher thinking I won't but then I get distracted and turn everything to jerky.

Like how I burn popcorn but can perfectly reverse sear steak and sear scallops.

Paid vacations
Work breaks
Sick leave
Paid holidays
No child labor
Safer working conditions

The problem with fetishizing the rule of law is that people have to break the law to resist fascism, state violence, and oppression. This has always been true, and is very much the case RIGHT NOW.

produce stand that's open late March to early November: bell peppers $2.99/lb.

every other grocery store around here: 3 for $5 at best, usually $2.99 ea.

sucks since I can't have tomatoes but can have bell peppers so that's 4 months without red sauces or salsa bc ain't no way. triple the cost.
Every time I get groceries I am admittedly amazed. The prices just keep climbing especially on the most random shit.

Like bell peppers. What the fuck man. Those shouldn’t be at the price they are now. What the actual hell?

already got the Sunday scaries because the transition back to working after time off always SUCKS as a neurodivergent reliant upon routine to have any sense of time and task.

but hey at least I feel human again after a few days of rest?

Creating a military conflict with Venezuela gives this administration a legal "hook" to invoke the Alien Enemies Act. In other words, the foreign war is being manufactured in order to facilitate court deference for its domestic mass deportation policy. It's a Stephen Miller Special.

There is hope for the future
There was an article in The Guardian a few weeks back about how Gen Z find bookshops preferable to online shopping, and a key factor was that an algorithm will offer you 6000 books identical to the one you just finished whereas a bookseller will offer you three that are different but meet the vibe.

In case you’re wondering why Pete Hegseth is freaking out about a congressional video reminding the military not to participate in illegal orders:
To put a finer point on this whole thing: "Two people with direct knowledge of the operation" — presumably uniformed military leaders — are accusing the U.S. Secretary of Defense of personally ordering specific war crimes. That's a historic accusation.
Textbook war crime/extrajudicial killing

"Two survivors were clinging to the smoldering wreck. The Special Operations commander overseeing the Sept. 2 attack ... ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s instructions."
