If you strip this away you’ve mistaken intelligence for pattern recognition, and data.

Human history starts with the first mended bone. The moment we take care of someone who can’t fend for themselves and nurse them back to health. We develop language because we’re pack animals that need to be able to to communicate. In order to not be outcast we need to care and learn how others feel

I think the funniest thing to me is that the people who are working to create an Artificial General Intelligence is that it’s a bunch of libertarians who have never realised that what makes us smart as humans is community, society, empathy. The things they find an anathema.

“Love it or hate it it’s here to stay” is a crazy thing to keep saying about a technology. If people don’t like using something it doesn’t have to stay we’re not talking about bad weather here

My favourite Heated Rivalry discussion point is everyone being all "it's government funded!" because people learning how governments fund television via this show is objectively hilarious. The CPTC is from 1995!

Yo @safety.bsky.app are you all just deleting every single account from Gaza on sight? Because this person hadn’t even heard of Bluesky when I started talking to her- made an account yesterday and made ONE POST. She’s a published journalist by the way.

Also we all know that whatever this ends up being, it’s gonna be weirdly fascist eugenics-y. Like it’s gonna be a bunch extremely conventionally attractive athletic mostly white kids a la the Nazi Olympics to underscore of “strong” white people are.
This is legit the plot to the Long Walk. Glad we’re fucking making the god damn Hunger Games, Jesus fucking Christ. We gonna do a god damn lottery to pick the special boy and girl form each district, I mean state?

Both sides also complained that the AI minutes taker they used is really inaccurate so they had to relisten to their meeting recordings anyway to fix everything which took even longer lmao

During a VERY important investment related meeting where we were interpreting for a client boss’ AI minutes taker failed.
Guess whose manually taken JP minutes and notes saved the day lmao

Boss: Japan HQ wants us to use Al and I’d like you to use it too
Me: *absolutely refuses and stated it’s a non-negotiable*

Boss: Well unless you can be faster than AI in taking minutes (in JP/ENG) you’ll have to use it
Me: Then I’ll be faster and better than AI

Good games use their story to support the gameplay and use their gameplay to support the story. It's an upward spiraling loop.

Also, most people aren't obsessed with abstract gameplay mechanics (and the few people who are obsessed are probably game devs). You need story to get people to care.

There's a billion new indie games that spit on that doomerist propaganda, and if that's not enough, there's a billion more games that came before ShitAssGPT which define the material that glorified scraper steals. We can cross our arms long as we want, and my joints are gettin good at locking up.

So look man if we're just gonna be online here watching all these big studios come out and lay down on the tracks about Gen AI going "I have to do this for some reason." then I think it's more important than ever to celebrate games from based devs who are out here openly posting "Nuh uh, fuck that."

I’m of an age when the first time a friend saw Russell pull out their phone to look up an answer to something they didn’t know on Wikipedia they yelled “hey, that’s cheating!”

This was well over a decade ago but I wish that were more common. sometimes it’s okay not to know everything right away
It is completely unnatural to resolve every discussion by using the computer in your pocket to answer every question.

That is super weird and people should actually converse without a pocket computer.

Friction is in fact good.
