welp, I figure I should talk a bit about myself as an early post! I'm an avid fan of indie games and am recently in my visual-novel-era, lewd or otherwise. around one year ago I made these lists of my fave games! (they are now definitely outdated since I keep discovering new ones lol)

LRP now I got Agnes Digital and literally went DM-ing friends being like "wtf why didn't they put any crumb of fanservice on her Career mode story bits
(so I may be a hypocrite yet again, lol)

I will beat this drum again, but I think cis straight dudes should learn to enjoy stories without the need for self-inserting or be the bland-MC-king of it... because it seems like there's too few of that going around, seeing the industry trends.

the thing about piracy is that if you replace it with "buying secondhand" or "borrowing a friends copy" it cuts through a lot of chaff. you dont see people arguing youre stealing from poor indentured writers when they buy secondhand & you dont see people arguing that borrowing is leftist praxis yfm

Right, and like even the overstated examples of like "this person bragged about pirating my work to me!" it's like ok well that's rude, it would also be rude if someone was like "oh yeah I read your book, by borrowing it from my friend" instead of just talking about the work itself to the artist lol

And the folks who are actually writing full-time generally only got there after years of day jobs, family support, or both.
The point of sharing this is not to demoralize anyone, but to let emerging writers know they're not failing if they can't make a living off writing alone. Almost no one can.

almost every novelist you read who's not from the airport fiction or bestseller sections is working a full on day job, including multi-award winners and absolute legends, or they have a spouse or trust that supports them. virtually across the board. just normalize in your mind that's how it works.
I know we know this, but authors need to get better at talking about how they actually make their money. Stop pretending it's from the books.

There are some things that load extra rounds into the chamber - short characters (like goblins) add a bullet. Anime-ish art style adds a bullet. A high-school-esque setting adds a bullet. Submitting a review build with a nonsexualized depiction of a nude minor is like playing with 5 chambers loaded

a few posts on the steam thing are referencing how there's tons of anime porn on steam and that is technically true but also they will ban japanese games or visual novels if they're having a bad day or the humours were misaligned on tuesday or whatever
