there is no way any person can sufficiently protect themselves against a hostile, oppressive, fascist government finding a pretext to take them into custody. the people the government charges are not primarily being charged bc they were not careful about opsec.

Let me make this REALLY clear. "Dems got spooked" over SNAP? No. Dems were OUTAGED that both Trump and lefties were so depraved emotionally they would starve people to make a point. Spooked? Really? Just cowards? Reflect on the continued dismissal of those already kicked to the curb.

NEW: Special elections in the razor-thin Democratic majority-Houses in Maine and Pennsylvania. Billions of dollars in funding for school. A congressional primary.

There are plenty of important elections right around corner, in FEBRUARY.

So i put together my monthly guide of elections to watch:
The 20 Elections to Watch This February - Bolts
Democrats hold the narrowest of majorities in Maine and Pennsylvania’s state Houses. They now need to defend vacant seats to retain their edge in each through the end of the... Read More

That's the thing though; being "fully happy" with a political party should never have been the goal and the constant whinging about it is counterproductive at the end of the day

Gonna be frank, by "opposition party in a hybrid/flawed democracy" standards, the Dems are doing fucking fine and punching way above their weight.

I mean compare them to idk Tisza, Navalny, the CHP, the Indian National Congress.

Republicans can’t handle a fraction of the heat directed at Democrats.

People need to direct their rage at them
Holy shit this is super red Alabama, every white person is a Republican there in Baldwin County
Point and laugh at MAGA Pedophiles.

In reddest of red Alabama, disease and lie spreading MAGT, Barry Moore, wanted to vomit over his residents and claim due process was not available to immigrants.

The maga was booed of stage. In Alabama

Anyway, it’s pretty fucking rich for people like this to situate their febrile fantasies as reality and any pushback as “do-nothing-ism.” Ludicrous. The thing about abolishing ICE is that it must be done and that there’s not a pathway to do it until democrats have the congress and the presidency.

I’m turning this into a consecutive 🧵 to make it easier to show people who are being bamboozled by the current ICE funding being debated:

The current funding is a pitiful drop in the $183 mil per month ICE *already* is guaranteed through 2029. Republicans are banking on you not knowing that.

🧵:
This is not accurate. The ICE funding is ALREADY paid out from the Big Ugly Bill that NO DEMOCRATS VOTED FOR through 2029–ICE gets 183 *million* per month already regardless of any new bills currently in Congress & this was entirely on the Republicans.

The current bill is so GOP can make you mad.

Everyone just needs to start mocking large accounts that can’t seem to find the majority party villain.

It’s Republicans.

If a large account wants to make you mad at Democrats right now view them with suspicion. They’re either fools or intentional propaganda.

Seriously, start cutting them off.

I have absolutely no sympathy for people who had reservations about voting for the administration that was at least trying, and negotiated several ceasefires, when the alternative was the candidate Netanyahu openly backed who wanted to turn Gaza into one of his resorts.

Midterm primary elections start on March 3rd 👇, so if you actually want to help the situation instead of just bashing, look into the competitive races and see if you can help the best Democratic candidates get a victory in November and get us out of the minority in Congress.

And we definitely need to confront the fact that we approach Democrats with intentional bad faith and double standards.

So any attempt at criticizing Dems falls very flat when confronted with that application of bad faith and double standards. Try removing those first, then get back to me.

this has always been extremely true and it's true for all of the reasons you think it's true and most of those reasons are rank, raw racism and stolen valor on the part of demographics who are feel uncomfortable when we are not about them even as Dems are fighting for their well-being
I feel like a huge problem on this app is an inability to engage with who the base of the Democratic party actually is & how they came about being it.

It’s like if someone was going around saying my comics suck and spouting a laundry list of things I’d have to change before they’d ever read me, let alone spend money to read me, and when I ignored them, they started shouting “IS THIS ANY WAY TO TREAT YOUR CORE FAN BASE”

Folks, I'm sorry, but your panic and fear are being weaponized by bad faith actors to convince you that legislation is pointless *the literal moment* that we have the first opportunity to actually pass meaningful legislation!

There's a reason for this! Think critically about who wants that!

It took hundreds of years of work & people being killed trying to help others register to vote before the Voting Rights Act was passed a century after the 13th Amendment’s ratification.
It’s an insult to the sacrifices civil rights workers made to refuse to vote & only benefits the Republicans.

The purpose of (5) by the way is not because I think this is about training, but purely to both a) make most of their agents field-ineligible and b) give them a huge training bottleneck to delay them staffing up and prevent them just shifting CBP guys over to ICE.

"press the advantage" says people who have never actually built anything long-term in their lives.

We cannot afford to have this be a flash-in-the-pan moment, a do or die narrative.

It needs to be a slowly building rumble, a thunder that grows over a period of *months* and *years*.

The blame lies with Republicans who control the House & Senate. Republicans who even gave ICE the slush fund in the OBBB without a single Democratic vote. Mike Johnson & John Thune are in charge, not Hakeem Jeffries & Chuck Schumer. Yelling at Democrats may as well be an in-kind donation to the GOP.

ICE funding is front loaded. That was baked into last year's reconciliation bill. A government shutdown won't stop ICE. But passing the DHS bill will cuff it.
