"Thanks, gang! Gather up!" Everyone shivers with anticipation as Oluwande claps his hands. Ed wonders how one man, or one business, can orchestrate a crowd like this. It can't be as simple as luring them with a piece of cheese. There has to be something that holds this kind of influence, and Ed doesn't think it's the whales. "Please join me in welcoming for his Whale Festival debut..." Oluwande pauses, and he grandly raises his arms. "The Gentleman Guide: Stede Bonnet!" The Gentleman Guide? Fascinating. What kind of tour guide has a stage name? Ed's chest jitters as he hears footsteps from below the jetty. Okay, maybe he's hyped up this Stede a bit too much. It'll probably be some guy in a clean white sailor's uniform telling everyone to wear their lifejackets, keep their hands off the rails, make sure there's enough room for two people to float on the door after the boat hits the berg... Oh, fuck. A sunny-haired man steps up onto the jetty and beams at the crowd, spreading out his arms, his arms, his fucking arms, which are covered by a black thermal top that's tight enough to reveal the lines of his biceps. But those delicious-strong-arms are not the only revealing feature. The top has a few buttons undone, and if Ed squints his eyes, he can make out a few long, delicate golden hairs bouncing out in the early morning light. They dust over the dents of his collarbone, tangled in the silver chain and shark tooth necklaces resting around his thick, sturdy neck. There's enough to make Ed picture the shape of the man's chest, the size of his pecs, and the faint curves of his stomach. But that picture almost gets thrown away, almost, because the man is also wearing the most ridiculous and gorgeous shirt Ed has ever seen. It's a short-sleeve, button-up shirt as blue as the deepest midnight, with white, star-like dots that flow like waves and form something resembling a humpback whale. And it's so outrageous and daring that it makes Ed's eyes water, not because it hurts, but because he is unable to blink and miss a second of this man's, of Stede's, aura that feels like heatwaves in the winter frost.
