my """favorite""" sort of aspiring fascist """intellectual""" is the sort of dork who starts their own publishing house, talks about how they're on the cutting edge of thought as the left continues to decay and yet i can't even find their books on libgen

I'm an old fashioned Hollywood queen at heart.
A collection of environmental films made by Indigenous filmmakers that I've screened in Ecocinema over the years (shared today for obvious reasons):

Won't know til my author copies arrive. I've been so lucky with foreign editions. Some beautiful books from cool small presses.

My book THE BEACH BENEATH THE STREET now in Korean, from ma-ter-ial. With this fabulous cover. ma-te-ri-al.online/product/thro...

I need everybody to read this and understand what’s going on. These are spouses of US citizens in the country legally. They have entry clearance and green cards, they’ve passed background checks and have no criminal records. ICE is taking them anyway.

FWIW I think LP books, firstly, get the attention of *our* ppl. Very important, that. But secondly, sometimes get the attention of the cis lit world which doesn't really have all that many other organic literacy cultures around to draw from.
happy "Bolsonaro criminalmente" to all who observe

Just ridiculous to me that Hugh Ryan, of all ppl, is not a writer some press is treasuring and developing, book by book.

There’s limitations to publishing with independents but there’s a lot of advantages too.

I had stable working relationships at Verso from 2010-2023 across 7 titles. At Semiotexte since 2015 for 2.

Maybe the hardest thing about being a 3x orphaned author (meaning all three of my books were acquired by editors who left the business before they could edit them) is that it means constantly starting over. The folks who read my books are wonderful! But in the industry, I have no long term supports

2312 is my favorite of Stan’s books.
New York City helped my mother become the artist she is today. The next generation deserves a City Hall that lifts up tomorrow's artists as well.

Honestly I fucking loathe the whole idea of "EdTech"

Pushers of technology into education couldn't give a flying fuck about students, educators, education itself, or any of their other so-called "use cases".

They care ONLY about profits. I really wish our execs could perceive this blinding light 😡

I have long posited that Daniel Craig's accent in Glass Onion is better than Knives Out because in Knives Out he is trying to do a real Southern accent and is bad at it but in Glass Onion he is just talking like Foghorn Leghorn, which is something a real gay Southern weirdo would do.
To bear out this rosy projection, HSBC assumes that OpenAI will become "as ubiquitous [...] as Microsoft 365" (345mm users worldwide) while bringing in 10x the number of users (3bn).

If you were a despotic president, what movie would you force Hollywood to make? I want to see Quentin's Star Trek movie or maybe Kill Bill Vol 3.

The evolution of the BBC article on Graham Linehan's conviction and how it describes the trans victim of this crime is beyond atrocious. They actively went out of their way to dehumanize the victim here. They removed all pronouns for her and gendered honorifics such as "Ms."

one of the coolest things about ChatGPT is how you can actually just never use it. you can fill your whole entire life with simply not once using it. it's incredible.

Same, girl. I treat the free pdfs as advertising. Grateful to ppl who see the advertising and go on to buy the books. Print books in particular are much nicer things to have and unlike reading on a device—don't spy on you.
