Wolfgang Huber is a prominent German theologian and ethicist. Huber served as bishop of the Evangelical Church of Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia until November 2009. But I think Paul's question is a good one... why isn't there more? I think partly b/c it's truly interdisciplinary, but not glamorous. Many biologists learn about controls the hard way, via reviewer requests. And there is certainly a good deal of cargo cult going on, as well.
- do knock-out and -in experiments, find genetic interactions and solve other combinatorial riddles.

- study systems that are mindbogglingly complex and complicated,
- use reductionism to study and describe such systems, using famously clumsy and fiddly tools to collect noisy and incomplete data,
