The appeal of de-regulation is the bias of living in a THOROUGHLY REGULATED world. "I would simply be fine" is easy to project into the future when you've has spent your life actively protected from harms you literally cannot imagine because you've mistaken the protection as inherent to reality
So obviously COVID and the subsequent backlash and politicizing of the vaccine had a huge impact on this, but I also think these numbers are indicative of a fascinating reality: a society that has grown up so utterly protected from disease that it no longer values or even understands that protection
