some significant part of this is just catch-all fear for “this is not the child I ordered” I think
Oh, here's a big surprise. The transphobes don't believe in ADHD either.
then, the transphobes , feeling victorious at how many people they have made unhappy and despairing in the previous week, move on to anything else that has a spectrum and the possibility of more colours than they can conceive - such hateful people - they cannot understand anything that is not THEM

In yet more devastating news, the VC has confirmed her plans to cut 80% of academic staff from Essex Pathways, our foundation year department. This would effectively close down all our existing foundation year programmes through the back door.

But it's not a done deal yet. Please share urgently.

'UK has too many ADHD diagnoses' doesn't pass the smell test as explanation for UK's rising number of young people not in education, employment or training - ADHD diagnoses have gone up at similar rates across our peers, but the UK's rising NEETs are a UK issue.

You might think that the "Labour" Party would consider labour itself to be a contribution to society, alas no, only "having lots of money" is a real contribution.

Perhaps they need to change their name to the Capital Party?

ADHD is not overdiagnosed. A recent Lancet study published research that analysed 9 million GP records and showed just 0.32% of patients have a diagnosis of ADHD. That's nudging just 10% of the 3-4% of the population who have ADHD. We're underdiagnosed, not overdiagnosed.

An independent taskforce *just* did a huge review of ADHD in England, and the conclusion was that it's "under-recognised, under-diagnosed and under-treated."

No, they do not.

Though Melania probably wishes that her husband does.

(Wow, that was catty.)
VARNEY: Do you work 18 hours a day?

MIKE JOHNSON: More. More. And I have to, because President Trump works 21 hours a day.

Otherwise known as the introduction to a philosophy PhD thesis. Just replace ‘if my interest does not flag’ with ‘if I actually get a job in this godforsaken academic market’.
I love this intro to a philosophy paper, though I can't actually remember which paper it's from.

Re: Nigel Farage’s bizarre press conference today.
1. No entertainment is ethically pure
2. BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN IT'S WRONG TO DISCUSS THE ETHICS IN ENTERTAINMENT
3. I don't care that it was gam-gam and pop-pop's favorite movie
4. We can't erase embarrassing or evil pop culture
5. But we also don't have to give it cookies or diminish its evil

The NHS: "Health sec, there is too much demand for autism, ADHD and mental health services, the waiting lists are too long, we need investment!"

Wes Streeting: "Hearing you loud and clear! Let's have a review into how we can stop people accessing those services to cut the load :3"

Seems more promising than "there was an em dash it must be fake!"

And yeah, I might not be able to remember every detail about the stuff I've written, owing to my moth-brained memory, but you risk me launching into a loving 6 hour presentation if you ask me questions about a scene or character.

Migrants, trans and non-binary individuals, disabled individuals, and now neurodivergent individuals. Does Labour have a check list of which already marginalised and vulnerable groups they will go after on any particular day?

Given the fascistic attacks on trans people, migrants, women, disabled folks etc, talking about “free speech” in abstract terms without confronting our political reality just enables bigotry to thrive. Bad faith actors use “free speech” to bully marginalised people. We must refuse this intimidation.

If this is how the university reacts, then students might as well use AI to write their essays because anything will get a passing mark.
It's not great that a student can turn in a bad essay but vaguely point to the Bible and religious beliefs as an excuse for not following the actual assignment and terrible writing. That's not what college is supposed to be.

The professor did nothing wrong but she was pulled off the course anyways.

I cannot imagine my mother doing this.

Mainly because she thought that we were adults who could handle our own responsibilities.
People are very hard on young people on here, lack of critical thinking, lack of responsibility etc, and then you see something like this and it all makes a different kind of sense.
