i don’t think everyone needs to like every film but the way people refuse to even take the avatar series seriously in any capacity feels so performative in a way no other series has ever been treated, very odd to me

This is what Bari Weiss et al think "censorship" actually is; when subordinates criticize their superiors. That has been the bedrock of the entire "cancel culture" discourse in elite media; rage at the idea that students, women, journalists, interns, etc might be able to speak against the boss.
The CBS reporter who led the story calls pulling it a "political" decision.
"The decision was made after Bari Weiss, the new editor in chief of CBS News, requested numerous changes to the segment."

In general, AI adoption levels are a measurement of to what extent a particular reward system (a corporation, a market, academia as a whole system) has ceased to distinguish between doing a thing and pretending to do a thing
One of many things the pro-AI crowd doesn't seem to understand is the very important distinction between academic scholarship and the production of papers. Of course they can be related but they're not necessarily the same thing

Nancy Pelosi moved heaven and earth to get Henry Cuellar installed and keep Jessica Cisneros out. He was one of the three (D) defectors here. Everyone who ever stuck up for either of them is a dog's dick with a separate, smaller dog's dick for a brain
Just now, a national trans healthcare felony ban for youth has passed the US House, with 10 year prison terms.

3 Dems crossed party lines to vote to jail providers.

4 GOP crossed party lines to vote against.

It is not expected to pass the Senate, where Dems hold filibuster power.

Story to come.

Every single one of these guys functions under the assumption that what is popular in their fetid little group chats is also the actual will of Real Americans, because anyone who thinks otherwise is excluded from that group by virtue of thinking otherwise. None of them have ever had a real job.
This exchange drives me nuts. Neither the interviewer nor Bazelon acknowledges that 1) abortion rights are really popular! and 2) what ICE is doing is hugely unpopular!

I watched an archival screening of this a couple years ago and it was pretty wild. Watch if you’re a fan of weird TV movies or Susan Sarandon.
Virtually unseen since its 1973 TV airing and recently restored, this live teleplay starring Susan Sarandon and Pamela Payton-Wright is a gothic fever dream.

Today I went to the premier of the restoration of William Wyler’s previously unavailable pre-code film Glamour at the Academy Museum. It starts as a pretty zany comedy before shifting into ridiculous melodrama, but I’ll take a pretty good 75-minute movie from the 30s over almost anything else
