DHS said that the woman CBP shot in the chest in Portland was “involved” in a gang shooting.

Her ~involvement~ was that suspected gang members sexually assaulted and robbed her.
After Border Patrol shot two people in Portland, DHS claimed they were "vicious gang members" tied to a past shooting.

But records I obtained reveal a US prosecutor has since directly contradicted DHS, saying, "We're not suggesting he is a gang member." My dive into how DHS' claims have collapsed:
DHS’s account of two Venezuelans shot by border patrol falls apart in court: ‘A smear campaign’
Immigration officials said agent shot two ‘vicious gang members’ in Portland, but records obtained by the Guardian reveal US prosecutor contradicted claims

The recent wave of departures follows the mass exodus of six veteran prosecutors last month who quit in protest of recent directives from the U.S. Department of Justice.

Remember that the pretext for invading MN was fraud committed by Somalis (on a scale smaller than some of the fraud Trump has pardoned and/or committed).

Now, BECAUSE of the abuse arising out of the invasion has led ~14 AUSAs to quit, plus ~6 in Civil Rights.

Interestingly, what is typically the most “safe” mutual aid work—like delivering food to people in need—is now the most necessarily secretive, while that which is typically “risky”—directly confronting armed agents of the state—is unavoidably public and open.
What's tough to get across to folks outside MN is that both the occupation & everyday resistance are both happening at such a scale that it's kinda flipped a lot of what most would assume makes sense for precautions or 'opsec'. Everything from spicy stuff to mundane have different rules than before

"The third woman said federal agents at her hotel are subsisting on microwavable bowls of Campbell’s chicken noodle soup, because it’s become so difficult for them to find restaurants willing to serve them.”
I visited hotels all over Minneapolis, went into back rooms & talked to the staff.

They're afraid.

One told me she resents how her undocumented coworkers spend their days cleaning the rooms of agents who are “hunting down their family members.”

The issue here isn't new recruits. These are longstanding agents shooting civilians on the street. Here's @vermontgmg.bsky.social on abuses at ICE and especially CBP: the US sees more crimes PER CAPITA - that is, per US resident - from these immigration officers than from all illegal immigrants. 5/

1:/ The problem with the training isn’t (just) the amount. It is what CPB and esp BORTAC are trained *to* do. Which is (both in reality and in their mythology): take on violent cartels. Ram cars, smash windows, assume armed and dangerous and not domestic crowd control and deescalation.

Shit is nuts. This week I spoke to a crim. defense attorney from mpls who mostly does federal work. He said a client got arrested with 19 pounds of meth & an indictment was coming. Then the feds had to forgo the indictment because they don’t have the resources. Walking away from 19 pounds of meth!
They are running out of lawyers.
DM me? We used to get hundreds of highly qualified applicants for a single job posting. Good prosecutors are increasingly hesitant to work for this DOJ.
