What is happening at Goddard is absolutely devastating. We are losing history. We are losing an incredible amount of human talent, skill, and knowledge. Rebuilding it will be impossible same for same. Industry can not absorb the people or the equipment. This is undoing space science in the US.
Goddard spacecraft engineer: "I think it just kind of speaks to the atmosphere of the agency and the nation, where people are like, 'Well, laws don't matter for the people at the top anymore.'"
NASA is sinking its flagship science center during the government shutdown — and may be breaking the law in the process, critics say
"There is just a general acknowledgement that a lot of what is happening is illegal…"

"Today Georgia, tomorrow Ukraine..." – 17 years ago, Polish President Lech Kaczyński warned the world from the podium at a rally in Tbilisi. His words sounded like a prophecy.

As I just flagged, this has been replaced with something which is arguably worse; requiring that basically every plaintiff seeking a preliminary injunction against the federal government pay millions or billions of dollars in "security" to pay for "costs" to the federal government if they later win.

For those who don’t know, Jonathan is *the* person who keeps track of stuff in space, a key part of the information ecosystem for anyone who studies or writes about satellites. He now needs some help to keep doing this. (1/2)
Well, big news. I am planning to move the Space Library to a new home. And I need some help - in 35 years I've never asked for funding, donations or subscriptions for my Space Report, to keep it independent, but now I need to raise some additional funds.

It is time to look to the future.

The challenges that face America are many and great.

The Senate must respond with resolve, bipartisanship, and fidelity to the working and middle class of this country.

Just in case people don’t fully grasp it. The pardoning of insurrectionists is Trump’s way of building loyalty from militias and domestic terrorists to carry out unofficial acts for him

The best historical artefacts are the accidental ones that freeze a moment in time forever.

I thought I’d try to find all the times pets have ruined their owner's day and recorded that instant for all of history.

EAGLE S is arrested by Finnish Coast Guard.

Laura, this is forever your best tweet. The Muse was listening
Goddess, sing me the anger of Matt Gaetz, Florida's son, that fatal anger that brought countless sorrows on the Republicans, and sent many valiant Speakers of the House down to Hades, leaving their bodies as spoil for dogs and carrion birds
As Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from uneasy dreams he found himself transformed in his bed into the Speaker of the House

At about 7pm on Dec. 3: Yoon and Def Min meet the Chief of National Police and Chief of Seoul Police and give them orders to arrest the leaders of the two major political parties and the Speaker of the Assembly, and tell them of the plans to occupy the Assembly and National Election Commission 3/

What’s happening at BBC?
Is this incompetence? Sabotage? Or is this deliberate?
With all the fact-checkers, you chose to use an image from the devastation russia caused in Kyiv to illustrate an attack on Kursk?
Do you understand what you’re doing?

Never stop reminding people that

"The Problems are all caused by the Bad People, and if we just kill all the Bad People, the Problems will go away"

is not in fact a valid progressive posture. It's the foundation of reactionary politics.

There's a genuine question that Trump has never bothered answering under scrutiny from non-partisan media: why did he need a new FBI director when the last one he appointed was still in role?

Wray, being a good Republican partisan, is saving him that scrutiny. Cowards all the way through in the GOP
BREAKING via The New York Times

FBI Director Chris Wray told bureau staff he intends to resign in January, 2.5 years before his 10-year term ends

Wray is accepting the reality that Trump, who says he intends to nominate Kash Patel to serve as FBI Director, is going to fire him if he doesn’t resign
