For all the "P(doom)" stuff that gets brought up with AI, it seems to me that nukes are a much more serious risk.

If these fears truly drive the AI community, why do we not see similar worries about US foreign policy driving the world's worst to nuclearize ASAP?

Warren Buffett compares AI risks to those posed by nuclear weapons: 'The genie is out of the bottle'
In comments during a two-hour CNBC special on his life and legacy, Warren Buffett compared the potential of AI technology to the threat of nuclear weapons.

I once met an NFT millionaire peddling his favorite investment vehicle, pictures of sleazy felines called "Gutter Cats" that paid dividends of "Gutter Rats". His open view was that his success entitled him to treat his wife as a servant and his children as annoyances. Tim Robinson sketch ass dude.
We don’t dance on the grave of NFTs enough. I had a year where I was repeatedly told by bozos I was going to be irrelevant and extinct for not embracing them, I should be allowed a victory lap.

By hook or crook, the right has been able to drape themselves in the mantle of the working class standing up against the effete elite. Once you're there, every online tanky on one side matters and none of the actual leaders on the other side do because they already have the mandate of heaven.
There is no doubt in my mind that they filled up your feed! Social media feeds are run by the worst people alive, with very few exceptions, among them this site!
These "fairy tales" you're talking about filled up my feed every day for years. People still do it.

The answer to what authority ought to bind the USA is the USA itself. Realpolitik doesn't work in a world where lesser powers can enact horrendous and decentralized mass destruction if you put them on death ground. Brings to mind the old adage that "God created men, Col. Colt made them equal".

One ought to be careful about these sorts of statements, but the lesson from Saddam to Gaddafi to Maduro to Kim Jong to Putin seems to clearly be that if you lead any country in the US crosshairs or any that might end up there, you need to have a nuclear deterrent or a well drafted will.

Today I learned there were two versions of "Universal Soldier", one is a folk song about the inhumanity and ultimate responsibility of war and the other is a Van Damme movie about reanimated Vietnam vets fighting in the future. Fuckin lmao.

Today I have:

a) been asked to repair terrible work that my colleague produced via Chat GPT, and;

b) been falsely accused of having used ChatGPT to draft some of my better work.

I am going to become the Joker.

Frankly, I won't believe that the NFL takes this seriously unless he's suspended for at least a game. No, this has nothing to do with me being against him in the fantasy semifinals. No further questions at this time.
We wanted an apology. We got one. I agree with Mina, the bigger issue is the general influence of these bigoted streamer guys on a whole generation of young men, including athletes and non athletes.

I haven't exactly been bowled over by the policy successes of the Carney Libs so far, but CPC talking heads doing crocodile tears over this is a bit much.

If you want a system where we vote for parties, support PR (and forswear any power this century).

There seems to be a rhetorical similarity between the rationales given by crypto boosters and by US government on the Carribbean boat strikes, namely that one rationale (store of value/legitimate strike) swaps to another (have fun staying poor/no war, no war crime) when challenged.

The nice thing about the world cup being in North America is that they don't have to do weird cloying freak shit for the violent tyrant leader of some hellhole like Russia or Qatar.

If we are trying to support the idea that blending orphans may increase the stock price of a tech company we need one (1) study performed by a directional college in Hungary, if we are trying to support using taxes to help the needy we need one million pilot programs with a 100% success rate.
Once again, one of the most consistently replicated findings in the history of experiments is that giving people cash with zero strings attached has massive social benefits for those receiving the cash as well as the community around them
An Oregon pilot program giving cash to homeless youths sees a staggering reduction in homelessness. The program gave participants $1,000 cash payments each month for two years, and at the end of the project's first phase, 91% of participants reported being in stable housing.

Interesting how scarcity/wealth in smart young people creates opposite problems

The conservative bench is so weak, shallow and dumb that they end up wedded to idiots, grifters and nazis.

The liberal bench is so deep they end up with stodgy out-of-touch credentialists.

To be clear, this is a real trend, but I think this it's more nuanced.

On the one hand, yes, of course children have a right to their own bodies and to refuse a hug.

On the other hand, part of parenting is trying to build the capacity for your children to overcome natural assholish tendencies.
Ahh yes, a totally real trend for which we totally have evidence

Wait, so if we switch to Bitcoin we won't have to pay most of the wine-with-wife fee? I'm gonna save so much.
Eric Trump: "You can send $500 million worth of bitcoin on a Sunday night at 11pm while having a glass of wine with your wife for virtually zero fees."

Everyone should listen to this.

It’s easy to blame Rogan for understanding the situation far too late, but the important thing is that he’s using his platform-with his millions of listeners-to talk about it now.

This one show will reach more normal GOP folks than we ever could.
The con worked, until it didn’t?

ROGAN: “I really thought they were just going to go after the criminals… I really thought there was enough gang members.”

ME: He still doesn’t get it. That’s what Trump wanted everyone to believe. They’re not even trying to go after “the criminals”.
