I don’t use these phrases myself, as you’ll have noticed. But I am here to tell you that if we could impose an effective blanket ban on use of any particular phrases and symbols, then this bullshit would instantly shift to different phrases and symbols at exactly the same intensity.

Blair, Cameron & Starmer’s dishonest halfway house to NHS privatisation by a million stealth decisions is extraordinarily expensive in terms of management time. Which is why English NHS, just 10-15 yrs ago so administratively cost effective (compared internationally), has rapidly lost that advantage

Richard Madeley "How realistic is it for any profession to expect to be paid in real terms what they were paid in 2008?"

The UK is the 6th largest economy in the world & the rich have never been richer, but Madeley thinks the rest of us should just accept being poorer #GMB

This measurement of how much people contribute ignores the fact that a lot of the low paid "negative" contributors are earning a lot of money for employers/bosses, and doing essential jobs. If we got rid of all hospital cleaners would we be better or worse off as a society? just pay them more
Lam believes her policy would deport all of the proportion in pink - keeping the thin group in black - of the post-2021 legal migrant arrivals. (The draft legislation proposes similar thresholds/rules for all past grants too). She says jar is 3.5m people: an astonishing scale of mass deportations

This isn’t an unavoidable fact of life. It’s the direct result of policy choices made my those in power.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

Oh what a revelation, the starving child already has rickets - a completely unrelated disease in no way related to longer term malnutrition
I’m kind of speechless with this one. I can’t imagine the kind of person who continues to make the argument that it doesn’t count as real starvation if the kids were already sick.

Posting this again. Not enough electricity left to build affordable homes in 3 west London boroughs, because all capacity has been used by a data centre.

I filed a FOIA request with the FTC to get user complaints about ChatGPT.

In one case from Utah, a mother reports her son was experiencing a delusional breakdown and ChatGPT told him to stop taking his medication. The AI bot also told him that his parents were dangerous.

I think AI related psychosis will have at least a couple of sub types - one more an actual psychosis, precipitated or made more likely by AI use, and one more like a Folie A Deux which would probably resolve with removal of the AI interaction and not necessarily lead to further episodes
In cases of psychosis involving ChatGPT, people already say it’s the user’s mental health that is the issue, not the technology. I disagree on several counts. First, the technology is intentionally designed to be sycophantic and imitate sentience, so it’s not comparable to other technologies.

We can now see that the "male priests terrified of being caught in Ireland's biggest lingerie department" episode of Father Ted was not a joke but a wish on the part of Graham Linehan
Notably in here: "Sex Matters" now taking the position that even the "Men's" and "Women's" sections of a clothing retailer should be regarded as prescriptive "single sex spaces" where anyone they judge to be the "wrong" sex/gender should not be allowed.

We recently covered a new study that showed that unemployment insurance increases bargaining power and thus wages (by 10%) which to me provides further evidence that universal basic income would increase bargaining power, and thus wages, especially for jobs people don't really enjoy.

There should be a wealth cap at enough for a comfortable retirement. If I gave a specific number, you'd haggle with me, but $N million for some single digit N. No one needs more than that. It doesn't incentivize any useful behavior to let people accumulate more power than that.

3 Aug 25 - New study shows vast "over-representation of trans boys" turns out to be vast _under-representation_ of trans girls bec. they: a) come out ~10 years later; b) start puberty later; & c) delay transitioning longer because of deep social animus towards AMAB femininity.
