that’s not a rational thing to believe

if you start feeling like Only You Can See the Conspiracy AND that Everyone Can See the Conspiracy and So if They Disagree They’re In On It, you’re getting played, intentionally or not, by the psychodrama of being online

breath for a second. do you sincerely believe you live in a world where there is a sinister conspiracy between both political parties to sell out democracy that is obvious to anyone who looks at it, but that no one ever does anything to address, and that your internet friends figured out

i am so confused how people get convinced social security won’t be around for them

i understand many people in my generation and gen z believe this

but like… that was obviously always Republican propaganda, what’s up with that

All reporters tbh, but esp political ones. But if they did that, how would they see all the fun stuff their Republican friends post?
It is long past time for New Jersey political reporters to get off Twitter.

People without a vested interest in falsely calling this a total Democratic loss/cave/etc. - namely, who aren't FOX announcers or lefties trying to "hostile takeover" the Dems - in fact are calling it a win for the Democrats, in part because health care costs are now a topic of discussion:

i think "Trump learns he can get things out of the legislature by threatening to starve Americans" is a giant political boon for Democrats honestly. like how do we think he is going to employ that lesson in future that does not have dire electoral consequences?
like this is basically it, the melts melted under pressure

*why the fuck do people think AIPAC would care about the government shutdown*

i mean, it’s “literally medieval-level anti-Jewish propaganda,” that’s the answer, but i find myself compelled to demand to know how people think things work, even when those people are de facto nazis

Heads up, there are a lot of accounts, jumping on this moment, telling people to leave the Democratic Party not to protest to just let fascism take over. Don’t engage just press not interested and block them if it’s really bad.

You guys, we never had any material leverage. All we had was an opportunity to make them eat shit, which they gladly did. So, mission accomplished. There were never going to be any policy extractions because we never had any means of actually making them do it.

I have been teaching freshmen in college for almost 15 years and the absolute world shaking shift is that 18yr olds now absolutely believe blatant homophobia was like in their grandparents time while the freshmen 15 years ago were actively still struggling with it.
*deep breath*

Young people’s ignorance of how homophobic American society was 30 years ago is a welcome sign of progress. Young people’s ignorance of how homophobic American society was 30 years ago is a welcome sign of progress. Young people’s ignorance of how homophobic American society was 30 y

Reminder: a lot of people currently handicapping how the end of the shutdown will play politically also handicapped how the shutdown would play politically 40 days ago and they were pretty wrong about that.

Republicans in Congress extended tax breaks for billionaire corporations, but they refused to extend tax credits to lower health costs for working people.

While Trump and Republicans inflict pain on people, Democrats’ most important job is to fight back.

This deal is a mistake.

also like, do people understand that the main reason people don’t vote like politics sickos is that they do not see the same things politics sickos see, and that therefore you cannot, as a politics sicko, generalize your own reactions to things to what the general public will think

So, technically, as of now, the government has not reopened and they are all just assuming the House will sign off on Thursday?

Because uhhh... that is a whole 72 hours away still, heh.

Read every word & share with everyone you know. This is real life here in Chicago. Americans need to know this grotesque reality & stand with us.
Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

To reiterate my "theres only so much you can do to make Rs not want to do the politically disastrous thing of blowing up ppls healthcare," I think even if the subsidies get thru the House, Trump would almost certainly veto them. He just wants to hurt ppl & refuses to see that voters blame him for it

if I'm an ATC who took one measly sick day since it was fucking October and my kid had a cold I am *incandescent* over this.
The President wouldn't last five minutes as an air traffic controller, and after everything they've been through - and the way this administration has treated them from Day One - he has no business shitting on them now.

We have to wait for another vote in like 4 days then the House has to pass the exact same version (Likely, not guaranteed) then it has to be signed. And then once *all that* has happened there's another shutdown fight in Feb without SNAP being a thing that can be used as a wedge.

Elon buying X and firing everyone pretty much turned tech into a shitty place to work almost overnight.
OpenAI "proved" that LLMs are a viable product and X "proved" that you can fire large numbers of employees

(and, for that matter, Trump 2024 "proved" that wokeness was over and you didn't need to put up with any lip from your workers)

1. The deal sucks.
2. Probably not as much as you think it does.
3. It’s good to be mad.
4. FFS, be madder at the GOP.
5. Strategy is hard.
5b. Timing matters.
6. The fight isn’t over.
7. Go pet a cat. (Or a dog.)
