I could not read all of this, it felt like my blood was literally boiling
This valuable @newyorker.com profile of Laura Loomer is a good example of why a certain kind of access journalism can be useful. Also? I hate rhetoric that dismisses fascist figures as "crazy." Mental illness is serious. But Loomer definitely seems genuinely unwell. www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...
Laura Loomer’s Endless Payback
The President’s self-appointed loyalty enforcer inspires fear and vexation across Washington. What’s behind her vetting crusades?

I find this distraction discourse unhelpful. Trump's video was appalling and significant and should be analyzed and denounced, and part of the work of politics is to turn it into a major controversy in its own right, as a symbol of Trump's autocratic disdain for the people.
Obama: The weird videos of a U.S. President with a crown on his head flying a fighter jet and dumping poop on protesting citizens… All of that is designed to distract you from the fact that your situation has not gotten better.

That's baseball, Suzyn
This entire game--the entire series, the entire season--came down to a discrete series of dingers, lucky catches, hits that fell a few feet short ... just an absolutely wild & random series of contingencies. I can honestly think of about a dozen specific moments that could have gone the other way.

60 percent of republican discourse now is like "why are you talking about nazis? that stuff is so played out and you're an NPC if you think it isn't. it actually threatens my family when you say stuff like this." and the other 40 percent is "hello. I am Hitler."

Sort of incredible that we live in a world where the vice president of the United States is just spewing the sort of horseshit that literal children are traditionally taught is wrong

(4) Trump and the Republicans don't have an advantage over Democrats because they *better understand heartland Americans.*
They have an advantage over Democrats because they created their own universe of propaganda outlets, and then went out and bought all the mainstream outlets.
Duh.

Feel like it’s worth remembering this when anybody says Congress should have voted that trump was disqualified on account of insurrection.
On 1/13/21 a majority of the house voted that Trump had incited insurrection and on 2/13/21 a majority of the senate voted that Trump had incited insurrection.

The actual finding here is that a huge percentage of the population believes things that are not true. Democrats objectively did not spend significant time on climate change or LGBTQ issues in the last election campaign.
Duh. Those of us on the ground last year actually speaking with middle class/working class voters and who heard from these voters every single day the same - “Trump is an asshole, but Democrats are out of touch” - could’ve saved my new political party a lot of time & money producing this “report.”👇

He’s been celebrating passing a dementia test for five consecutive years. It has become a major life event for him, a pillar of his personality comparable to winning the presidency
He keeps doing this same victory tour. In the "person man woman camera TV" interview on Fox News in 2020, he gave details that made it clear he'd taken the MOCA.
I took a closer look at the cognitive test Trump claims to have aced
The test the president boasted about passing does not measure IQ but is typically used to check for early signs of dementia

What about both, can it be both?
Theory one: Trump is going nuts/senile
Theory two: The difference between resisting briefing from qualified professionals and not even having qualified professionals around really makes a difference - Trump's information environment is pure garbage now.
I'm all in on theory two.
