“Is it ok to kill people with your car?” The greatest thread in the history of forums, locked by a moderator after 12,239 pages of heated debate.
Thank you to all who continue to participate in the greatest policy debate in modern history. I’m going to respond to this thread with some frequently asked questions so we can focus our efforts on more productive conversation.
strangers are fighting to the death in my menchies over this pretty innocuous take and slinging devastating counterarguments like “what if I had to run away from a murderer” and “I like speeding”

Advocates: Drunk driving deaths are rising 2x as fast in California as elsewhere. We need to require speed limiters and breathalyzers for repeat offenders. Please act now.

To me the settling point is this: opponents of integration have to be removed from the professional managerial class. Like wholly. That’s what “Woke 2” is to me. Rather than gently moving towards norms of integration, anyone who expresses hostility towards the project is simply removed.

This is the apotheosis of what you might call “Citizens United-brain.” Our elites use and (importantly) *believe in* money as the only real form of speech. And they live in bubbles where money shapes (and deforms) their reality. Not much of a stretch to go from “money is speech” to “money is truth.”
This is the head of the company that CNN just partnered with, insisting that prediction markets are a great way to cut through the noise and determine what’s true and what isn’t.

No, really, listen to him. It’s actually that stupid.

The problem everyone’s sleeping on is that the midterms are going to be about SCOTUS. Thomas/Alito and maybe Roberts could *all* retire so every notionally right wing person in the country will be activated to save the Senate GOP from itself because control of the court might actually be a jump ball
we need snap midterm elections immediately

Think reeeeeaaallll hard about why this same thing, an insane drop in housing production, happened in every city in America immediately after the Civil Rights movement
amusing chart. it turns out New York City built more housing units in the 1920s than in the 1970s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, and 2010s put together www.nyc.gov/content/plan...

Per tale: sculptor’s muse. Weather worn.
There once was a king, Ozymand
Who bragged about all he’d command.
Trying to fill his foes with fright he
Said “Look on my works, ye mighty!”
But now it’s all trunkless legs and sand.
I heard there was a statue tall
That sneered at folk and commanded all
But you don't really care for symbols do ya
It goes like this the feet the fist
The head that fell the aim that missed
The long lost king whose name was Ozymandias

There's a lesson to be learned here in that a lot of people looked at Mamdani and Platner and decided that the latter was a "young authentic candidate" and the former was not for reasons they insist are not racist
“What if we get young “authentic” candidates with no political experience, run them in high profile races, and roll them out the with the political media and small dollar donors with little to no vetting?”

There are a lot of them, but this is one of the main reasons parliamentary democracies are usually more stable than presidential systems. There’s just too much political incentive for legislators to sit on the sidelines and cheer or jeer an independently elected executive without doing anything.
The incentives for a member of Congress are never going to point toward taking responsibility. Responsibility means risking you’ll screw up with everyone watching.

Much better from where they sit is to outsource all responsibility to the executive, who lately always gets a pass on everything.
