Fale Vaigalepa Pea, a 42-year-old man with an extensive history of violent offenses, brutally assaulted Jeanette Marken, a 75 y/o woman in Seattle, earlier this month.
The attack caused permanent blindness in one eye and broken facial bones.

It just wasn't a big, newsworthy deal like, for instance, the college applications of a mayoral candidate to a school he didn't get into or attend.

One thing that gets lost in the Platner debate is that Marines are famously really stupid about tattoos and his story is entirely plausible.
I think a tattoo defacement humiliation ritual is a fine way to resolve this based on everything I know right now.
