We (as in I, but my editors allowed it and I love them) did team-wide shooting rankings @theathletic.com

You should check them out because we are trying to start a dialogue about the game 😇

Last night when Portland beat Golden State was the first time in history that a player made 12 three pointers but their team still lost the game.

This @jamesherbert.bsky.social story on the small guards succeeding in the modern NBA was fantastic. So much great stuff in here:

Davion Mitchell, Jamal Shead and Collin Gillespie -- all 6-foot-1 and under -- are providing the blueprint for today's short kings

I linked to this yesterday, but it's worth bringing up again.

When I first started doing analytics, it was the base assumption that players are, on average, the same. Now I am more interested in what *changes* them. This highlights one cause.

Waiving Chris Paul would also drop the Clippers to just 13 players on standard contracts. They don’t have enough room under their hard cap to fill the spot. And you can only drop to 13 players for up to 14 days at a time, 28 days total.

Very unlikely to see a straight waiver here.
The Clippers probably won’t waive Chris Paul until they’ve exhausted trade possibilities. CP’s contract is fully guaranteed and LAC is tight to their first-apron hard cap. CP becomes trade-eligible on December 15.

A buyout is possible, but a buyout of a minimum deal isn’t really a thing.

At about the quarter-pole of the season, the Thunder lead the NBA in Defensive Rating at 104.9.

The Heat are in second place at 111.5.

That 6.6-point spread between Oklahoma City and Miami is wider than the difference between the second-place Heat and the 23rd-place Trail Blazers (118.0)

3-point shooting so far this season for the highest-volume guys.

- The rise of Sam Merrill!
- wild to see a rookie near the efficiency frontier, Kon is for real
- my UConn heart loves to see Cam Spencer up there
- LaMelo, Shaedon Sharpe and Derrick White competing for chucker of the year so far

At least on Night One, Tyler Herro looks plenty comfortable getting downhill quickly in this Miami offense. Started cold but has really gotten going by being super decisive with the drives.

Not enough attention is being given to the fact that the Rockets have the best offense in league history. It's also the weirdest.

-Dead last in 3-point attempt rate
-No. 1 by a mile in offensive rebound rate

Mashing their way to points while eschewing 3's.

Last year, no one was even close to Dyson Daniels in terms of deflections/steals.

This year, there is a surprising new disruptions king: Ryan Rollins, who has 11 more deflections while playing 22 less minutes.
