A key strategy of commercial actors is to influence and distort the evidence base relating to the harms of their products

This is done through funding misleading industry-friendly science & through the active promotion of misinformation

Young people don’t get a discount on their rent or food bills. So why are they paid less?

700,000 18-20 year olds could be missing out on an average of £2,400 a year on average because they're not covered by the main minimum wage.
A fair living wage should be given to all regardless of age - Lorna Slater
The cost of food, energy, housing and living is soaring, and the financial insecurity is far from over for those relying on foodbanks or being forced to go hungry.

Charlie hits this out of the park. Building homes, and not forcing municipalities to thrme dirty work via threats, needs to be a part of this "nation-building" activities too. #cdnpoli #bcpoli
The PM is talking about nation-building. We need to be talking about being a nation where people aren't dependent on food banks and are able to live in affordable homes.
A nation where people are not left behind.
This is my latest.

From the great new NBER paper by Bloom et al on the cost of Brexit.

It ain't pretty - they estimate UK GDP is down between 6-8%. Consistent with the doppelgang model of @johnspringford.bsky.social for CER.

A lot of 'free' GDP available availabe for Labour if it had the courage to reset properly.

Lots of Labour MPs asking Mahmood tonight to rule out child detention. She won’t rule it out. That’s because forced removals of families will mean children in detention for periods.

Home Office ruling out deportation of lone minors but the changes will certainly mean more detention of children.

The game is fixed so the only move that’s ever available is more and worse cruelty, while at the same time no level of cruelty will ever be enough to win.

A moral & political death-spiral.

They do know that many cultures don’t have rings as marriage symbols but other artefacts that in this “bags of gold rings” ignorance they will obviously be seizing.

Also whether you “seize” at a border or during a raid of a damp barracks it’s the seizing that’s wrong. Utterly wrong.
Labour MP Sarah Owen asks Shabana Mahmood for "any evidence taking personal belongings, such as jewellery from refugees and selling it off actually works as a deterrent?"
