It's funny. I've been warning about U.S. de-democratization for a decade, and yet I'm still, at a gut level, surprised by how fast it's happening.
Missouri Senate leader says special session is ‘likely’ to redraw congressional map  • Missouri Independent
Momentum is building for the Missouri Legislature to redraw the state’s congressional districts with the aim of gaining a Republican seat.

Lemme just say if President Bernie Sanders had unilaterally imposed, by executive fiat, hundreds of billions of new taxes, personally browbeat executives about job cuts and investments and then fired the head of BLS, the Chamber of Commerce and the business orgs would not be sitting idly by.
one thing that keeps happening is Trump taking major steps which impose large, often asymmetric costs on American business, and American business doing fucking nothing in response
Unquestionably the most dangerous and corrupt attack on the independence of US economic data in American history. Trump is firing the head of the BLS, a longtime civil servant confirmed 86-8 by the Senate, simply because the job numbers came in below his expectations today

the problem with letting democrats backslide their support of trans rights whether it be trans in sports or using bathrooms is we’ve seen “compromise” in the UK labor party. they gave into “reasonable” TERF demands and it destroyed the labor party and all rights for trans people

did for Harlan Ellison back in issue 291 of @heavymetalofficial.bsky.social in which he did a little A-Z list of the man’s many quirks that made him both recognizable, loved and hated.

The pitch is never that AI will fold the laundry for us, it's always that AI will remove the good stuff from our lives. Picking a birthday present for my kid isn't a box I check, it's something I want to do, and six months later when that's the stuffy she sleeps with I get to feel good about that.

To explain: A college or university in a town means you've got thousands of people living in that town just for that reason. Which means you need restaurants, grocery stores, hairdressers, auto repair shops, clothing stores, etc. to support all those people. That is a LOT of jobs from one school.
There is a false dichotomy drawn between "the ivory tower" and "the real world," and I'm here to report that in a post-industrial society, your real-world economy absolutely hinges on the university.

University towns are factory towns. Universities drive economic activity, not the other way around.

Oh this is perfect.

Every time someone blanks out the nipples on images of this protest they're saying that trans women's breasts are in fact breasts, and not just saggy man chest. Media sanctioned gender euphoria all round! 😈🤭
Go transes

And if they class us legally male, then they shouldn't be able to do fuck all about this.

In the past 36 hours:
-USA Credit rating has dropped
-Trump has threatened Springsteen, Swift, SCOTUS, and Walmart
-Trump has rattled on about groceries
-Tornadoes have devastated parts of the US no longer covered by NWS

…and I’m supposed to care about Joe Biden’s mental acuity in 2023?

So do not let them get away with shit.

I get concerns on AI use in universities, but to my mind the utility of AI in college is the measure of how sick the system has become. If students view their job as playing a game to get a piece of paper that opens the gate to middle class life, rather than something idealistic, AI makes sense.
