I received a thank you from some library workers for this piece after a Chicago city budget was passed this week without the previously proposed library cuts I described here. Many thanks to everyone who made noise about this issue. There were wins and losses in this budget, but this win matters.

Jewish Currents is searching for a new Editor in Chief!

This is a pretty important role, and I hope there is a diverse applicant pool. Being Jewish is NOT a requirement. As an advisory board member with no say in the hire, I hope especially that those who are POC and/or trans will apply!

time to step away from the starbucks drinks, y’all. do not cross the picket line.

unions are how we fight back. corporate monopolies are heavily consolidated right now. it’s a large part of why prices are high and wages are low.
BREAKING: Starbucks workers have just authorized a massive strike.

Union Starbucks baristas voted to authorize the strike by 92%.

Now baristas in over 25 cities could launch an unfair labor practice strike on Thursday, November 13th.

It’s ok to be scared. However, being scared isn’t enough to stop you from taking action. It assumes that other ppl doing things aren’t scared as well. If you’re a US citizen(esp white ppl) then you must make some sacrifice. Ppl will be brave if they see others being brave. Take the moment seriously.
