i am a workflow enjoyer and i'm addicted to astrophotography's various workflows, all of which run through a half dozen niche freeware programs i've never heard of before

Like this. The planetary camera makes a film. In this case, there were 20 seconds of footage generating 475 frames using SharpCapture software. A processing program (autostakker), through a stack algorithm, aligns the 25% best frames to generate a single image. It then goes through another program (IMPPG) that performs deconvolution (recovers part of the signal lost in the image compression process). And finally the post processing in the Affinity software. Where fine details are improved and color is added. It takes a little work at first but once you get the hang of it it gets easier. This composition had eluded me for nearly a decade, but yesterday I was finally able to capture it. A train rolled through just as the Duquesne Incline was crossing over the tracks in #Pittsburgh, creating a picture perfect winter scene. It was worth the hours and hours I've waited over the years.

What a wonderful thing. I was always so spooked by the sudden death of a coworker’s best friend at 26 from cervical cancer. Went for her routine pap smear, no symptoms or anything, found irregular cells, 6 weeks later she was dead. 26 years old. She’d just bought a new car “all by herself”. Insanity
