I always think when I encounter this particular type of aggrieved white man in or around academia that they would not be able to survive a single week in the shoes of the people of color/women they are convinced are less qualified than them, and only get jobs because of our identities.
Not one week.
Wait…omg…this entire anecdote I mean argument is premised on the experience of someone who DIDN’T EVEN ATTEMPT THE MARKET????

I literally applied to hundreds of jobs over seven or eight years before getting a TT job offer.

At my university we found that an obscure accounting decision was leading to overprojected deficits that justified austerity while channeling money into capital projects at the same time as admin was laying off teaching and research support staff. The uproar shifted $5 million back into operating.
People should take a page out of New School faculty's book and start doing forensic accounting for their own institutions using public documents

Roughly 10% of Congress!

LSU is paying its previous football coach over $50 million NOT to coach there while likely guaranteeing Kiffin something approaching double that, all while having an academic hiring freeze and budget cuts across the board. What is the purpose of a university (rhetorical)?
SOURCES: Lane Kiffin is expected to accept LSU's offer to become the Tigers next head coach. Kiffin is set to meet with his Ole Miss team this morning at 9 AM CT. As we reported yesterday morning, LSU has been very confident it was going to land Kiffin. www.nytimes.com/athletic/684...

The folks at @afghanevac.bsky.social have in hand a new USCIS directive which largely targets Afghan refugees who fled the Taliban in the wake of the U.S. withdrawal in 2021.
