Bari Weiss's CBS Evening News replaced John Dickerson, whose investigation "Excited Delirium" into the murder of Elijah McClain was nominated for an Emmy, with Tony Dokoupil -- whose claim to fame is calling Ta-Nehisi Coates an "extremist" on national television.

Hey remember a few years ago when we were rapidly eradicating types of influenza, and then Joe Biden was like "hey nevermind you can go cough on each other now it's cool also vote for me and I'll stop Trump and cure ca cer" and then he didn't stop Trump or cure cancer?

saw someone say the next dem administration should learn from trump & simply enact their agenda without thought to norms or procedure, & i hate to break it to that person but the dems already do exactly what they want with power. they don't try to do things & fail, they try to do nothing & succeed

I don't want to be a "I'm not surprised" guy but covid made it clear that a substantial part of the population wants the freedom to do whatever they want even if it kills them and/or others
strangers are fighting to the death in my menchies over this pretty innocuous take and slinging devastating counterarguments like “what if I had to run away from a murderer” and “I like speeding”
one of my longstanding takes is that car manufacturers should be forced to install mandatory speed limiters in every new vehicle and people react to that like I'm advocating to strip them of their right to free speech

Importantly, this wouldn't have passed without Dem support. There was enough of a split within Republican ranks that if Dems had voted against the bill it would've been doa. Giving Trump a blank check to warmonger *and* passing an anti-trans measure was a choice.
115 Democrats just voted to codify the first federal trans segregation law.

These ridiculous mega-projects like "datacenters in space" (doomed by thermodynamics) make a LOT more sense when you realize they're massive Ponzi schemes designed to transfer wealth from pension funds to VC's through "fee stacking."

It's the old Assets Under Management con. It should be illegal.
“.. Skeptics believe the technical risks are being underestimated and say space-based data centers won’t be competitive on cost, especially if power and other constraints ease on the ground.”

No-strings-attached, zero-means-testing, no-questions-asked cash payouts have been proven, over and over again, to be the most effective form of charity/aid going.

It gets people in housing, and it saves the state money. We know this. It's fact, not theory.
An Oregon pilot program giving cash to homeless youths sees a staggering reduction in homelessness. The program gave participants $1,000 cash payments each month for two years, and at the end of the project's first phase, 91% of participants reported being in stable housing.

Hm, seems like before sending a funding bill to this president, Democratic senators could have written some guarantees into the bill that the funding would actually get spent
The Republican govt shutdown is over, but Trump is still leaving our families in the cold.

With over 150,000 households in MA dependent on LIHEAP to pay their home heating bills in the winter, I'm joining @trahan.house.gov & nearly 100 Dems demanding Trump release these funds NOW.
Mass. families delay turning on heat as LIHEAP funds stall
Gov. Maura Healey urged the Trump administration to release delayed LIHEAP funds as Massachusetts families keep thermostats low, fearing winter heating bills.

It would also give *Ryan Lizza*—who could, in theory, have leaked this info at any point over the last 12-16 months—a role in both RFK’s appointment and the untold preventable deaths. But Lizza either isn’t self aware enough to realize that or is too busy selling Substack subscriptions to care
well, I read it, and the salient, non-gross part is Lizza alleging, midsentence and without elaboration, that Nuzzi ran numerous “catch-and-kill operations” on RFK’s behalf, which would give her a role in both his appointment and the untold preventable deaths he has abetted in office. Cool.

If AI wants to be a truly worthy artist, we can start torturing it, blacklisting it, undervaluing it, pretending to be friends with it and then stealing all the money.

And after it is bullied into suicide by bricking its own data centers, then we can posthumously declare it *almost* a true artist.

it's not fair that people in charge can call in airstrikes against boats but you're not allowed to even whup their ass until they stop. you have to wait until november 2026 and fill out a form and that's all you can do, and meanwhile they blow up a bunch more boats. bring back ass whuppings

This is the generous read. A more cynical one is Democratic leadership saw progressives win and are panicking.
Capitulating Democratic senators waited until after the election, indicating they know capitulation was a bad politics that bothers their voters and reduces their chances of retaking power.
