What's the proportion of articles written about insane left winger undergrads at Oberlin (enrollment 3,000) vs the right wing Christian administration at say, Grand Canyon University (enrollment 60,000) bsky.app/profile/plaw...
You’d have no idea reading the national media that there’s a massive network of right-wing colleges and universities, just like you’d have no idea that the vast majority of TV news is run by right wing corporations

They didn't like Biden and sought out stories to hurt him. By contrast they like Trump so try to bury negative stories about him and minimize them
Barely a blip in the news. 🦗from the New York Times editorial and opinion pages. Compare with days of Hunter Biden Hysteria about unprecedented abuse of the pardon power.

I think one of the defining things about our era and about conservativism, is an inability to distinguish between like, the actual government, and mid-level marketing managers at Target (who choose "happy holidays" to avoid leaving out non-Christian customers)
In retrospect the Bush-era War On Christmas stuff seems more ominous than it did at the time. It was just cable news guys crying about dumb/fake shit, then and now; I mean the campaign to turn Christmas, which most everyone likes and feels warmly about, into just another thing to get mad about.

Kind of wild how the take that some of Trump's supporters were "deplorable" was some huge scandal, but regularly screaming about "radical left scum" is just a thing he'll say with no media backlash.

It's incredible how much of this stuff is just out in the open, but because Trump said "Russiagate hoax!" 5000 times, the media was brainwashed into treating it like a nothing story instead of one of a ten alarm scandal
Tenet Media founder Lauren Chen, who secretly took money from two people with ties to Russian state media to involve conservative influencers in an unwitting propaganda scheme, is back in the US after being deported to Canada under President Biden. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

The leaders of the US auto industry had a difficult path towards relevancy, only by leaning on the support of Biden's IRA. They've decided to throw that away, juice some ICE profits for a few more years, and let their successors deal with the incipient crisis of global uncompetitiveness

The thesis of the book is that early COVID lockdowns weren't worth it and mid-COVID mitigation measures like masks, contact tracing and business closures don't work.

This is laughably false and the authors have endorsed the people now running Trump's HHS.

“Politicians should do what wins elections” is asinine for moral reasons but also, no one knows what will win an election! Yglesias et al keep acting like there’s some obvious set of policies or words that will guarantee victory but Harris basically did what they wanted and she lost.
4. Yglesias instead seems to implicitly argue that politicians should only do what wins elections, virtue be damned. One wonders what he thinks of those foolish 1850s abolitionists. As Condleeza Rice once said, politics is the art of making the impossible inevitable. That ain't this.

2. What he says about climate is patently false (more on that later) but to the extent he's saying "politicians shouldn't do the right thing unless it's popular", I'd note only that that is a toddlers view of leadership. If the popular kids are mean, should you be mean?

When media says “Biden should have been more empathetic,” what they really mean is “when Biden attempted to point out that things were better, we told everyone he was lying and then demanded he admit he caused the economic disaster we were all sure existed”

Do you want to feel incandescently angry? Read coverage of Biden’s economic addresses, where he would truthfully relay great progress with accurate numbers, and it would get covered as a pack of lies. Then look at what the current guy does, who is covered the same way edition.cnn.com/2023/01/28/p...

I’m convinced the stress and constant annoyance of living in an economy where every corporation is constantly trying to screw you over is a big part of why people are unhappy with the economy, the government and status quo in general.

It’s not that social media is inherently evil. It’s that human social interactions and dynamics are the most powerful force for shaping ideology, belief, behavior, even how we experience reality - and social media scales them up globally and makes them largely frictionless.
People started dancing until they passed out from exhaustion due to social pressure/contagion/whatever, idk why people think social pressures of thousands or even millions of people wouldn't make people go insane.

Yup. And if you spent 21/22 whining about the cost of your burrito taxi or whatever you should understand that you were an accomplice to this effort and that effort worked - first in prompted policy changes that slowed the labor market, then in defeating Biden/Harris bsky.app/profile/fogg...
Ultimately for these people, Biden's unforgivable sin was presiding over the tightest labor market in memory where bosses could not pointlessly force employees to RTO or sexually harass/extort favors from female employees without consequences.
