Happily for me I already had no intention of visiting the US at least until Trump is gone (thankfully no longer married to a USian so not obliged to). Unhappily, as shit like this *never* gets reversed, only ratcheted up, I suspect this means I will never be able to travel there again.

Something so interesting about Don Draper on MAD MEN is that even though he spends the entire series chasing women, he's not liberated, he's not cool about sex, and when he encounters people who are, he's stiff and derisive, even moralistic. Sex for him is almost entirely compulsive.

Have just figured out that Welcome to Derry is not, in fact, some sort of imitation or follow-up to Derry Girls, and several things I’d on my timeline make a lot more sense now.

I miss the 80s.

Bruce Willis gets off the plane in Die Hard and goes directly to baggage claim, where he lights up a cigarette in the first 2 minutes of the movie.

I was a dumb kid once. Most of us were. My friends and I stumbled, learned, grew.
But even at our worst, we never stooped to what Nigel Farage is said to have done.

There’s a line decent people don’t cross.

Some of us learned that young.

Some, it seems, never learned it at all.

Not on the Wikipedia for 'Dub Be Good to Me,' so it's been wiped from history to an extent. Check the music mags at the time & find Norman Cook, Housemartins member, DJ, & architect of the single spend a few weeks claiming the bassline came from "...an old ska record..."

I feel compelled to write a review thread 🧵 for The Liz Truss Show because in the madness of the content, other aspects - vital aspects - are being missed.

1. The Aesthetics

Unless they were aiming for "Harley Street urologist waiting room circa 1992" this interview area is just unacceptable. 1/

Someone I know applied for a Scott Trust role for uni graduates but was told she couldn’t apply because she had an MA from a Scottish uni and they couldn’t understand that you could do that in Scotland without doing a postgraduate degree.
Slightly strange slant from The Guardian. Feels like it can't quite believe that Scottish voters really aren't the same as English voters.

Would pay them to get out of Westminster a little more often.
