can confirm

the secret sauce is just going to a lot of boring meetings
I really can't emphasize enough that if you care about local politics, all you gotta do is show up. Just a regular schmegular person showing up. Literally just show up consistently in person and within a remarkably short amount of time, you will have a shocking amount of influence.

My great grandmother painted for fun. I grew up with one of her paintings – a stand of pine trees weighted down with heavy snow. I’ve always loved that painting so I thought I would create my own version. I hope you enjoy the results!

Maybe instead of committing atrocities, we could just make the rich pay their fair share and have universal healthcare and affordable housing instead.

Idk, just spitballing here.

I don't agree with the sentiment that progressive candidate or legislative wins is going to cement the system that we need to dismantle. I'm talking about some who are disparaging about people like Zohran Mamdani or issue based legislative victories that are small wins and need more action. 🧵

Last week, ICE arrested and separated a father and son after a routine check-in. Six-year-old Yuanxin had just enrolled in the first grade at an elementary school in Astoria. Now he's in custody, alone. ICE won't say where. This cruelty serves no one. It must end.

Homelessness in the U.S. is far more pervasive than the official figures suggest: roughly four million people are without housing right now.

Many are part of the low-wage labor force, powering the very economy that has abandoned them.

I spoke with PBS News about this devastating reality (Part 1):

The most precious commodity you have is your attention. You don’t have to waste it on poor-faith debates or arguments with strangers if you don’t think they’ll be productive. You can prioritize the things that matter to you and make your life richer.

to keep functioning society must discourage baldfaced lying, especially by authorities
I wrote about a novel approach to tackling misinformation currently being discussed in Wales--and which some say Canada should try, too. What if we made a rule so politicians couldn't lie? www.thestar.com/politics/fed...
Is it time to make it illegal for politicians to lie to us?
That’s the question currently on the table in Wales, which has just released a draft of the “globally pioneering” sanctions for politicians.

It’s not a great deal if you don’t need it. And especially this year, others really need support. So for all of us who have enough, let’s refuse to get sucked into the holiday shopping frenzy and share instead of shop. We don’t need more stuff, we need communities where all our neighbors are safe.

♿️ I can't fully support #MAID until we have a real social safety net. I'm all abt personal choice, but right now it's not actual choice. Disabled ppl are pushed towards it by ppl in power who want them gone, and by policies that create barriers to living a decent and dignified life.
I will be the first to admit I couldn’t understand why anyone would oppose Assisted Dying… and then I became disabled and had it “offered” to me.

It’s not compassionate when there’s coercion.

It’s not dignified when it’s offered in lieu of care.

Listen to disabled people.

Some vaccines like COVID and flu don’t stop completely stop infection.

But they do reduce the risk of getting infected and greatly reduce severe illness risk.

They are still worth getting.

Since they are not 100% effective it’s also wise to add another layer of protection by wearing a mask.

It's not just "consumer smart" it reduces environmental waste, key materials are often mined in slave conditions. The whole tenor of the article is wrong - why is the economy so dependent on us engaging in mass waste?

In case you needed one more reason to boycott the Washington Post…

Their editorial board has come out against releasing the Epstein files

They’re dismissing them as having no public interest & praising Clay Higgins (the one “No” Vote in Congress)

It’s safe to say some journalists are on the list!

Getting dental work done when you're #Autistic is really difficult and expensive. Especially when you have trauma from past times you couldn't access sedatives and it comes up again. Sensory competent care w medications comes w the disability tax and the need to borrow money. ♿️ ♾️ 🦷

I don't even get outraged anymore, just tired.
Every day a new scandal from the past to the present erupts. The pattern is not some commentary on a set of institutions or leaders.

It is about the rot at the core of almost all our institutions and our leadership.

At its core, this is why fascism is here. The rot has rotted.
