These people aren't masking for shits and giggles- they are the immunocompromised, elderly, and others who are, or believe themselves to be, particularly vulnerable to infections of airborne viruses such as sars-cov-2, influenza, etc.

Didn’t realize this was a thing, but now recognizing that I’ve noticed sometimes when they aren’t used (just never put together what looked off).
Following up on that last repost, the reason why "ffi" is sometimes a single character in typefaces is that it's what's called a ligature, in which characters are merged to make them look better on the page, as seen here:
