In my book I tell story of grad student who was training as therapist at Oklahoma State University Psychological Resources Center, giving bargain-rate therapy to working-class locals.

Antifa exposed him as influential neo-Nazi who went to Charlottesville rally.

The school then let him graduate.

Exactly this: the administration’s concentration camps should be a howling, daily outrage, a scandal of historic proportions.
Bari’s complaint was “there’s nothing new here” and while that’s untrue it’s also irrelevant

“we intentionally sent people to be tortured in a hellhole and bragged about it and The Hague is too good for everyone involved” is a story that simply cannot be told enough

one of the critical things here is that 90 percent of journalism has been destroyed, and the remaining 10 percent is what was once the top 10 percent, highly status-driven, highly opinion-driven, and intensely New York/DC centered. there's no ladder to come up as a journeyman left.
i say this with nothing but love for all of you to whom this applies, but the moral rot in elite journalism is because journalism is a trade and it should be done by tradespeople and instead it's been professionalized in a way that makes it cozy to capital instead

The comments on this video on TikTok are so interesting to me because it is a lot of people saying that we can’t do this because what if Republicans try it to or what if Republicans reverse it. “We have to change the court the traditional way.”

“purity tests” in this context tends to mean “having consistent principles, standing by them, and being FOR things instead of just being AGAINST Trump”
We don’t need purity tests. We need people that get stuff done.

Please note I take the 60 Minutes censorship situation very seriously, I am very concerned for my American friends.

And I also laughed out loud at this:

Remember when I said Weiss was stupid and incompetent? Stuff like this. An actual television producer would understand this stuff - if not the exact schedule and procedures for how the episode was distributed, at least who they could ask who would know.
It’s actually not technically a leak. CBS News only operates in the US. A non-PSKY owned network Global TV has Canadian rights for 60 Minutes and aired it unedited since the call to pull the episode was made so late in the day. That broadcast was recorded and then shared across the internet.

To put this in context, what they did is about the same as changing the font to Wingdings to keep it secret and hoping no one knows how to switch it back.
Ok. Now had a chance to check and, well, at least some docs do appear to be straight up classic redaction fail. And there are some *interesting* bits here.

Bari Weiss’ CBS is what the tech fascists mean by creating “parallel” journalism.

Create new fake brands (“The Free Press”) or hollow out existing brands and replace with right-wing clones.

Or both!

That’s why I included her in the “Mirror World Mafia” last year.

This is horrific. It also describes typical conditions in US jails and prisons. These sites exist to torture and steal, not detain or rehabilitate.
30 minutes. Some deportees described sexual assault. Detainee describes the guard sexually assaulting most detainees. Lights left on all day. Prisoners not given clean water.

Now the DHS tour. Nobody spoke to the detainees. Noem's video was in a different area of the prison.

bari weiss saw this and decided that she had to hide it from the american public
Guards began beating him. Beat him until he bled. Knocked his face into the wall, broke all his teeth. No access to outdoors, no contact with relatives.

Now describing US knowledge of CECOT's torture practices, followed by footage of Trump praising those practices.

“It turns out that banishing the slur from public discourse was, in fact, important. Because now it’s back and it turns out that it does matter when subtext becomes actual text, when terrible people enable open hatred and bigotry, encouraging others to emulate them, degrading us all.”
Perry: The return of the r-word
"These days, the r-word slur has become a staple of the American right wing, uttered with few professional or social consequences," David M. Perry writes.

If Bari Weiss didn’t know what the Streisand Effect was before this week, she’ll certainly be familiar with it now. This episode of 60 Minutes is utterly damning. The sadism displayed in CECOT is even worse than previously depicted. It’s clear why she felt the need to protect Stephen Miller. Watch!
