Existing with MCAS is having to make daily choices like: if I want to keep my teeth in my head and not bleed to death internally, I need to eat this orange…but if I want to see, talk, walk, or sleep, or have a normal beating heart, I need to NOT eat this orange. And honest to everything, I can’t.

The sense of safety and connection that comes with a successful and informative Doctor appointment is everything. Even when the outlook isn’t great. Even when they don’t have all the answers. Doctors, get on board with this protocol. Most folks don’t expect you to be God, just be human give a damn.

I was so busy my whole life trying to be whatever I thought everyone wanted me to be that I totally failed to develop an actual personality. Finally getting to know who you are at 49 years old is gonna be real damn weird.
