Compelling stories are hard to come by, and even more so when they're just for fun. Do they need hardships? I'm not sure, I'd like to think not, but it gets harder to need to tell a story like that

My wife is into ham radio. She made a contact (a thing ham people do) with a guy in Chile, and this somehow got her his mailing address. She shared a screenshot. I grabbed his address and I'm sending him a letter with art and stickers. AS THE DARK GODS INTENDED.

don't ask them to help you. there's no real reward to helping n00bs — it's like asking for charity. nerds are motivated by status, so you have to challenge them. this allows them to reinforce their position on the nerd community hierarchy, which makes them feel good.
