What historians are going to focus on in particular is the role Wall Street and the national billionaires played in their own downfall. Obama bailed Wall St out, subsidized Elon Musk, unleashed Silicon Valley, and they got butthurt over the CFPB & memes and backed a maniac.

After Obama the review of the Bush years was that America's decline was greatly exaggerated.

After Trump the review of the Obama years is that it was a brief exception in the otherwise plummeting decline of the United States in the 21st century.

HUGE NEWS for trans people: We have the latest minibus, including the bill to fund the Department of Health and Human Services and it looks like there are no restrictions on gender-affirming care for transgender people.

Here's how WaPo and the Times
handled this.

The Times didn't mention the anti-Somali racism. WaPo simply said Trump "revealed his thoughts about Somalia."

WaPo cited Trump praising Hell's Angels without noting he did it while attacking "vicious people" from "the Congo."

You cannot overstate how startling it is to see a politician just say the thing with clarity and poise. No fearful hemming. No overwrought qualifying down til it’s meaningless. No lingering sense that there is a loyalty to a donor class or an ideology of stasis that they’d never admit to.
Mamdani: "I am in support of abolishing ICE. What we see is an entity that has no interest in fulfilling its stated reason to exist. We're seeing a government agency that is supposed to be enforcing some kind of immigration law, but instead what it's doing is terrorizing people."

This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again.

Astonishingly racist comments in this rant, barely remarked upon, as far as I can tell, by the major newsrooms.

So far, I am only seeing TPM, Mediaite, and Daily Beast focusing on this.

We live in a world where the president calling an ethnic group "very low IQ" and "bad for our country" while insisting they "ought to get the hell out of here" barely makes headlines. talkingpointsmemo.com/news/trump-m...

On some level, I get not leading with this. He's done this to some degree before. But these comments were a meaningful escalation and, if we let attacks like these become background noise, we have truly lost something as a society.

New— An American citizen boarding flight from Boston to Lisbon just now told me after showing boarding pass, every passenger stopped on jetway by two ICE agents demanding to take their photo. When passenger asked why, ICE threatened to detain them. If they said no photo, couldn't board/TBD detained.

"We placed the sign in the window." Excellent metaphor.
Carney: "American hegemony in particular helped provide public goods, a stable financial system... this bargain no longer works. Let me be direct. We are in the midst of a rupture, not a transition... recently, great powers have begun using economic integration as a weapon. Tariffs as leverage ... "

i feel like the viral bus thread resonates because at every step of the way you're like "ok surely this will be resolved shortly, any second now," which seems like what all the passengers are also thinking. then the fact that the situation doesn't resolve and the bus just keeps going is an Allegory

This means they're able to run their own feature development and moderation policies, while still connecting to Bluesky through the shared Atmosphere network!

i do think even a lot of otherwise well-informed Americans really do not understand just how much Trump has already mutilated our global reputation and global trust.

it will take a long time and many acts of extreme contrition on our part to rebuild this.
I swear everything I see out of the US is "wait until the midterms. We'll get a majority back and everything will return to normal"

I don't think they're aware of the damage that's been done

I agree.

Cong Dems cannot make this happen. But they should be calling for it.
-The world's most important alliance is being destroyed by one mentally disturbed man.
-That man outright says there is *no* limit on his power except his own "morality"[sic]. Including to make war

Which side are we on?
The 25th Amendment must be invoked by the cabinet. I’m all for pressuring them. Congressional Dems should lead the charge. Not on Bluesky or Threads. Let’s do it.
Invoke the 25th Amendment.

We are watching one of the wildest things a nation-state has ever done: A superpower is committing suicide because the GOP Congress is too cowardly to stand up to the Mad King.

This is one of the wildest moments in all of geopolitics ever.
