HR is never your friend. HR is only there to protect the company. I have heard so many fucking stories like this. Lawyer up and sue their asses.
When I was 19 the head of HR groped my tits. Then I told my boss. Who told HR. Which resulted in a 1:1 meeting with me and the head of HR where he explained that saying things like that could damage a man’s career and I was lucky I wasn’t going to get in more trouble. And then I apologized to him.
