Experimental evidence that students are more likely to contest grades when they are delivered by an evaluator with a female-sounding name.

"These findings suggest that women in evaluative positions face disproportionate resistance when delivering negative assessments."

This thread has been saved from the wastes of Twitter!

Go on; have a read, it’s a lovely Christmas Eve tale.
The most stressed out I've ever been about Christmas was when I was 16 and I got my first ever job, working at M&S in Dundrum. As soon as I started I kept hearing these myths about the Christmas Eve Waste Sale, where all the food that wasn't sold on the 24th was marked down 90%.

We need a modern day Council of Nicaea, but instead of doing it for “the Roman Bible”, it needs to be “the genres that record companies use on streaming services”.

Loved the @jamesyorkston.bsky.social gig at the Bodega in Nottingham tonight. Spontaneous, accomplished, funny and moving, it eased the heart of this time-torn man. Unreservedly recommended.

We had a real world test of this with Katie Lam's bonkers 'let's do Partition in the UK!' plans - the government attacked it, and the right retreated. 'If the government were more vocal, many other benefits would follow' is a demonstrably true position!
I’m sorry Stephen. You are taking as if there just a racist fringe and suddenly Labour appeasing them. This is a Sun interview. We have Jenrick, Badenoch leading the Tories. The right here, as in the US, are embracing this stuff, and Labour are flailing in response. But they’re not leading it.

I definitely disagree with Robin about some stuff (which is fine) but solidarity with him and I'm about to go shopping on his website to provide some small but more tangible support. Really sorry he's had to do this.

Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.

1. Some good news at last. This week’s column is about the amazing thing a couple of us stumbled into three years ago, which we’ve now developed into a global research programme. It doesn’t change everything, of course, but it could help change quite a lot. + 🧵 www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
Over a pint in Oxford, we may have stumbled upon the holy grail of agriculture | George Monbiot
I knew that a revolution in our understanding of soil could change the world. Then came a eureka moment – and the birth of the Earth Rover Program, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot
